Unfortunately, if you're starting from a base point that is significantly removed from zero (in the case of the Ballistic, thirty) and you're dealing with the new reality of esc's that adjust timing it is HOPELESSLY misleading to just slap on a label that says " -15* -10* -5* 0* +5* +10* +15* " because that doesn't reflect the reality of the situation.

For the Ballistic it couldn't be much easier to understand. You've got a "neutral" position (N) which I don't hope to understand (much less explain) how it is selected other than it's some high-tech engineering sh*t) and you advance or retard timing from that point. The motors/mfr's that need to do a better job of teaching are the ones that have labels like I've described...because I'm quite certain you'll find that their " 0* " is not zero degrees, that they are also operating from a base timing that is significantly removed from zero as well.

Good question, I'm not sure why we selected the "notches" rather than numbers.

Motor timing is generally the last step in motor assembly; if you replace your stator or rotor, the timing changes. Also, if your existing rotor weakens, the timing changes.

That's got to be some kind of record for self-contradiction! JK

I was hoping more for something like 5,10,15...45 degree numbered marks. I personally don't like the N reference point and +/- marks.

Too many people think N = 0.

Novak Two:

Please tell us more about rotor changes (new vs tuning) and weakening and how that affects timing. We're listening.

I will check and get back to you. Motor timing, and what can affect it, are complex issues; we will be adding info to our Ballistic Motor Technical Update to address some of these questions.

Scott covered the Nicd/Nimh thing.

ROAR has clear rules about battery approval. Samples must be submitted to ROAR for approval. Right now there are no rules specific to Life, so it would be up to the manufacturers to work with ROAR on what the specs should be, and how to enforce them. I think it took 2 years of research and working with manufacturers to get the LiPo rules worked out.

and from what I have heard, they are.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the timeline could be shorter than what it took for lipos.

Anyway, For those who currently run Novak havoc systems in your vehicles, any tips?
