I don't have a ballistic 5.5T 550 but I have the Tekin 5.5T 550 motor and I'm using the 62T spur with a 15T pinion. You would be good with 13T to a 15T pinion!

well second weekend out with the new lrp 550 4.5 it seemed like my truck was losing power on the second pack out. i brought it in grabbed both rear wheels and gave it a little throttle sounded like when you have a loose ball diff or loose slipper motor was turning but the wheels were not turning very strong. i pulled the whole rear tranny off thinking maybe the diff gears. no way after further investigating. i pulled the motor and said let me try something grabbed the pinion hit the throttle lightly. well the motor spins but the pinion shaft does not something broke loose inside. well i boxed it up today going back this afternoon to associated. ive never had trouble with warranty before so shouldnt be a problem. i ordered a tekin 4.5 to get by until then. i noticed the tekin has a different kv rating than the novak 4.5 and the lrp 4.5 anyone know why? i ran my spare ballistic 550 5.5 on 2s the rest of the day and with the 13 tooth pinion it was way underpowered and slow as dirt lol.
any one have any trouble with the new lrps yet. im thinking the new one when it comes back will be saved for a spare. really sucks its a fast smooth motor. i miss my old novak hv 4.5 it was by far the strongest ive tried yet but the damn thing would stutter in the middle of a race from brake to forward.

I am currently running the Castle Sidewinder SCT combo (ESC and 1410 motor).
I have a Viper VXT10R Lite (without ProGauge since I already have one) and Viper VST 8.5 540 motor on order (order is on hold) and have already paid for it 100%. I got a super deal on it too.
I run on a tight indoor carpet track.
So,
Option 1:
Take the above order as is. Run the Viper ESC and 8.5 540 motor.
Pro: I can get it as soon as possible. (2 weeks)
Pro: I get a really nice ESC
Pro: I can use the Castle ESC/Motor in another vehicle (maybe a 2wd SC to bash with)
Con: 8.5 motor may cook in the SC10
Con: the Viper ESCs do no work at all with sensorless motors, so I can not use the Castle motor with it.
Option 2:
Modify the order to:
Viper VXT10R ESC and Viper 550 5.5 motor, wait a few weeks. This motor is big like the Novaks and may require chassis modification for it to fit and mesh up properly.
Pro: This should be a really nice setup.
Pro: I get a really nice ESC
Pro: I can use the Castle ESC/Motor in another vehicle (maybe a 2wd SC to bash with)
Con: It will probably take a 4-6 weeks for me to get it. (shipped to Canada)
Con: may require chassis modification for it to fit and mesh up properly.
Option 3:
Get a refund on the Viper stuff, buy a Tekin RX8 to run with the Castle 1410. The RX8 will cost me the same as the Viper VTX10R and 8.5 combo.
Pro: Very nice esc, pretty good motor
Pro: Can get it as soon as possible (2 weeks)
Con: Not really the ESC/Motor I wanted
Con: Turning down a super deal on the Viper stuff
Con: I won't have a ESC/Motor combo to put in a basher
What do you guys think I should do?

And if you can wait a few months longer Viper is releasing the 1/8th scale ESC which will run sensorless, so the 4 poles will be able to run on the Viper gear.

LRP is a 13mm. Less torque, more RPM.
Tekin is 12.5mm. Even less torque, even more RPMs.
I think the Novak will be the most forgiving, and let you gear it higher for more speed, but the LRP and the Tekin will be smoother. Depends on your driving style and how much you like swapping out pinions.

I've had the same problem with (3) Novak rotors. I've got more miles
on my Tekin 4.5 and it has never failed. The Tekin is smoother then the
Novak 4.5 so you'll probably love the Tekin.
Heres the fix for the rotor problem. I went to Advance Auto and got some
Permatex high temperature sleeve retainer, it cost about $9.00 Loctite
also makes the same thing. The I pulled the rotor magnet off the pinion
shaft cleaned them both with brake cleaner. Then I followed the instructions
for the Permatex and I never had the problem again. Everyone I talked to
at the track that sent motors back for repair has the problem over & over
again. My fix is permenent, so give it a try, nothing to loose but $9.00 &
a little time.
Hope this helps...
