I dont really want to buy another esc if you guys are gonna have a "more specific" 550 motor and esc system out soon. I don't mind spending $90 for a motor and having it sit around later...but $300 for motor and esc and then the new and better thing coming out soon would not be cool.

Will the vtx10 be ok with a 6.5? I have a vtx10...But worried about the 10 running a 6.5 and a little worried about 6.5 not being enough motor.

We will have our VST-XL 550 motor available soon, but the ideal controller for that motor is already available - the VTX10R. Get a 10R and you'll be set for any turn 540 or 550 class motor to come

I apologize for this, but I'm mobile on my phone. I'm at the track for the first time with my vtx10 and vts17. I seem to remember something about tweaking the boost curves, but forgot to write that down before I left. I'm currently running an 84 spur in a Losi SCT. The tracks got a 130ft straight....anybody help a brother out? I just had 26/84 in it and it was still feeling a little pokey on the straight. Of course I'm coming from a cc 3800 soit just might be that
I'm running profile 4 untouched at the moment. Thx, Jesse

Got some more time on my 22 with my vtx10 and 8.5viper and played with some of the settings. This thing runs super cool and super smooth...and the settings are all so easy to change. I had no idea I could change my BEC voltage, that is great.
Also, got more time on the 4.5 550 Viper motor in my SCTE while I was chassis testing and that thing is a beast. I found that I like the timing down a bit, around the 15-18 range. Came off a full 20 degrees cooler than my buddy running the Tekin. Love it!

Well, back from the first time out with the Vipers. I had about thirty minutes total wheel time before the quallies as I tried to get the gearing and the afore-mentioned profiles, etc. right. Never did get the profiles tweaked and was running the stock #4.
Keep in mind this was the first time I'd driven a 17T brushless. When I got my XXX-SCT back in February I'd been out of the hobby for 12 years. The stock motor in the SCT blew up after five runs, so I dropped the CC 3800 combo that I'd bought to screw around with into it and have run it ever since (about 12 race days I think). It's honestly been too much
I've consistently been finishing 4th in the b-main (out of a & b mains) or DNF'ing with breaks.
Tonight running stock there was only one heat, so it's not a DIRECT comparison, but I TQ'd (a first for me ever). Two little mistakes, the first of which I recovered from, and I finished second. Also the best I've ever finished
I was THIS CLOSE ->||<- to my first win ever <facepalm>.
During practice I never had another stocker to compare it too today, so I was happy in the quals that I ended up pretty much at parity with the rest of the people running. Hoping to get some of the profile things worked out...I'll be asking more questions later

Can't wait for the next race

Jesse-
That's great to hear about the near win and your TQ. Glad your prOfram has stepped up with Viper RC
Viper RC truly does give you the tools to win. It's up to you to decide what to do with it then!

Time for me to re-read this thread start to finish and take notes
I started looking at using the mod profile and tweaking it before my 2nd qual last night, but realized I was in way over my head for a "quick change", and just set it back to profile 4.

max adv timing gives our motors a crap load of rpm so increase in little increments from 2-5% at a time.

I was finally able to get out to the "track" tonight with the sc10 4x4 and my new 10R. (We have a private 140 x 60 track we do testing and practice on every Wednesday night). I was amazed at how smooth the 10R is but I ran into some problems that maybe you guys have some insight with? First off here is the gear I am running with. I am running the 10R with a Tekin sc4x 4.5 550, Airtronics m11x radio (calibrated to esc per esc instructions) , Savox 1267 servo, and as for batteries I have 2 Fantom 5000 40c's and 1 Fantom 5600 50c (quality batteries). I ran 4 packs thru the truck and the problem I am running into is that my truck was shutting down after less than 5 minutes of run time. I have a blinking red light on my on/off switch. Trying to troubleshoot it tonight I wasn't able to come up with anything. Here's what I have my esc set with according to the proguage:
- run mode is set to RACE MODIFIED
- Profile 1 selected as you suggested
- everything else left at default setting
I have the truck geared to what the manual has as a starting point (62/12 13.28 fdr). When the truck shuts down the servo is still operating so my first guess would be that either the ESC or the motor has gone into thermal protection. I took temps as I pulled the truck off the track and the motor was coming off around 150-160 and the esc was between 130 and 150. According to the progauge my motor shutoff is at 190 and esc is 220 so I would think I was still ok in terms of temps. After each run I allowed everything to cool down to ambient temperature. I thought it could be the servo? That savox 1267 is a beast so I increased my sbec to 7.0v (servo is rated up to 7.4v) but this didn't seem to do anything as the truck still shut down. I even went as far as to kick it down to STOCK racing mode to see if modified mode did something to shut it down and it still shut down. I also checked the driveline after every run to see if there was any binding or rubbing, everything seemed to be good to go.
Any Ideas?
