I've been following the Ron Paris tuning method and my car runs great but fails the pinch test. It will hold 260-280* all day long which I am fine with but when I do the pinch test it dies immediately. My needle balance was originally too lean on the hsn and too rich on the lsn. Runs great now!

How would i know if i put a rod with an oil port in backwards?? Would it be like major overheating or just give me problems??

if it dies immediately, it is likely too lean on the lsn (hence your higher temps)

If you put the rod in backwards then you will blow the bushing in the rod apart. Thus ruining the engine. Make sure the oil hole in the bottom of the rod is facing the crankshaft.

I don't really consider those temps high. I'd say they are perfect. But I have to keep the idle screw turned in more to keep it idling. The idle is slightly higher then it should be with the car on the ground. If I lift it up off the ground it races a bit so this can mean lean LSN right? When I richen the LSN more I have to turn the idle up even more.

Yes, if you richen the LSN, you will likely have to increase the idle accordingly. What I do (YMMV) is get the car up to temp and make high speed runs once the chassis is heat soaked...make sure your idle gap is around 1mm to start...get the hsn close, but not too lean..you want a good stream of smoke all the way to the top...when I bring it in to a stop, I listen to the idle....if it idles high and then drops to a lower idle within a few seconds (or a 2 stage idle drop), I lean the LSN....I do another high speed pass and repeat...once the idle remains constant (it might be high at this point), I am good...I will then adjust the idle speed to lower it down a bit. You might have to richen the hsn a bit after doing this. If your engine gets hotter the longer you run it, your lsn is likely too lean...this method works for me, but i will defer to Monty...lets see what he says!

GMS,Look at post 966. You can take the backplate off & look at the rod near the crank pin bushing. If you see a hole angled down while looking through where the backplate was ,you have the rod in backwards. Holes should face forwards twards the clutch so when that hole in the rod swings past the hole in the crank it forces fuel through the hole in the rod down to the crank pin bushing. Is that what you wanted to know? Or is your question something different?
