Well, I have to say I am very happy I stuck it out.
After some serious hair pulling trying to get a new 5 port started on the Losi box in my truggy I went ahead and just dropped the engine into my RC8 so I could use the OFNA box to get it started. Eventually, I got it to roll over and fire and after that break-in went fairly smooth.
After several heat cycles I hit the track and went easy for the next few tanks. I started to crank it up after that and am really impressed with this engine.
I was getting very similar lap times to my V-Spec, which is what I normally run in the buggy and even better mileage!
Temps were a little high - about 260, but, I still had a light line of smoke at the top and plenty of smoke on the bottom. I think I may be a little fat on the bottom and just slightly lean on top, I'll make some adjustments the next practice session.
I know the general concensus is that the 7 port is the way to go in the buggy and the 5 port in the truggy, but I really like the 5 port with the 086 in the buggy, really good bottom and winds out to a nice top.
I just may keep the GO right were it is and put the V-Spec in the truggy...

yes, all go engines now are gen whatever, and have the new lsn carb, the jp3 does very good, almost to much on bottom but very strong indeed for you track size, runtime will suffer only a little compared to the 0801 or OS pipes. But that is a good combo to run,

The 086 pipe will give you better fuel mileage, and good power all the way thru.

Default Go engine inner shield

I was reading a link that someone sent me and I thought this was interesting. Has anyone done this and is it true. The article was for the 3port race. Would the same go for the other go engines?

Tip from Simon Yi from GO Naga Racing Team for a little more bottom power is to remove the inner shield of the front bearing

I did a similiar thing to my drivetrain - I removed all the inner shields on my hubs...Been running for 2 weekends now (bash around the house) and no problems. And yeah, less friction. I wouldn't take a risk during races though...

*sorry I wasn't talking about GO engines...

I have the opposite thought I ran both (Go 5 port was a friend's), and the P5X was stronger from bottom to top

However the 5 port is much much more linear compared to the P5X

Don't worry about the price of turbo plugs to much as you'll find they are dearer to buy initially but they last longer than a stardard plug does (in my experience anyway) so price wise they work out about the same in the long run.

I use Novarossi C5Tc or C6Tc turbo plugs (Long body plug- I know everyone tells me you can't use the long boby turbo plugs in a go but I have been for nearly 2 years with 0 problems so far)

Os P3's seem to be the main choice for Go users but fuel, pipe and track conditions (ambient temp) will all effect the plug temp and type to use.

hope this helps

Adrian
