Tamiya TT02 Thread

Have fun with this car on carpet. I ran a TT02 Type S my first year of racing....the car was unbeatable on asphalt....handled like it was on rails. Brought it indoor onto carpet, was like driving a school bus. Tons of oversteer that I could not dial out no matter what settings I changed.

Type S on Carpet was great in USGT. You need to make some changes from Asphalt. Do you have the optional droop down stops? A must for carpet.
If you’re oversteering you need to lay down front shocks more and stiffen the front. Post your set up so we can have a look.

Looking at all the different tt-02 kits there is a wide price range of those that come with bodies. Are all the chassis the same with such a bignprice spread?
Want to do a tt-02 class but want to make sure the chassis are a level playing field.

It should say which version of the chassis is included (e.g. the TT-02D, which is meant as a drift version, but apart from the tires is a normal TT-02 just with a few better parts included). The higher tuned versions like the R, RR, Type S, SR, etc. were/are only sold without body, AFAIK.

The only types of TT-02 Chassis that include Bodies are:
TT-02 (base platform)
TT-02D (drift spec): includes oil shocks and full ball bearings, which are simply the most relevant "upgrades" to your question.
Variations in price within the above group specs are typically related to the licencing associated with the included body.
All the other variations of TT-02 platform do not include a body.

They have one kit that has all the hop ups minus a body. Other than that they are basically the same thing with different bodies. We have two tracks starting a TT02 class down here in Fla. The fastest guy at one of our races was box stock with bearings 48 p gears and used TC tires.

Also worth considering, some kits such as the 911 RSR "Martini" and the Zakspeed Capri have wider rear tires. Also, a few bodies, such as the 99 Impreza, Yaris WRC, Lancia Delta, etc. come with rally tires instead of slicks. Not a huge difference, but a dynamic difference nonetheless.

looking for some TRF shocks for my stock TA-02. Everywhere is outta stock. Do they not make them anymore? This is my daughters car for practice & scooting around the house. She will eventually race in novice with the car. Just looking for a quality upgrade over the friction dampers

It defintely simplifies the package, but the arguably "racier" bodies are not included with the Drift Spec kits.

Just keep in mind that all the Tamiya bodies are primarily designed for looks, not aerodynamic qualities. So for performance, you are almost guaranteed to improve with pretty much any other manufacturer out there. But the looks and the realism of a Tamiya body are hard to beat...
