Tamiya TT02 Thread

The GT Spec Novice class is for beginner drivers only. This class is perfect for new drivers that have little to no experience, and just getting into R/C racing. Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert drivers, are not allowed in this class category.
Recommended Skill Level: Novice Only
10.1 Legal chassis platforms: TT-01, TT-01R, TT-01E, TT-01R-Type E, TT-02, TT02S, TT-02SR, TT-02R, and TT-02RR (TT Series)
10.2 The GT Spec Novice class may use any Tamiya Hop-Up-Option designed specifically for the platforms allowed above. Recommended: Ball Bearing set, Speed Tuned Gear Set, Aluminum motor mount, and Oil-filled dampers. These 4 Hop-Up-Options are all you really need.
10.3 Motor: You must use the kit supplied motor. (Mabuchi/Johnson) 540-J and RS 540 Torque Tuned motor (items 54358 & 53689) respectively. They come with all TT kits. See General Rules for Motor RPM limits.
10.4 Tires: Any TAMIYA rubber tire, and wheel, may be used. 24mm, and 26mm width wheels/tires, are permitted.
10.5 Legal race bodies: Any Tamiya 190mm GT, or Sports car body is permitted.
10.6 Minimum weight: NONE

This thinking ruins spec classes, set guidelines and stick to them. Allowing hop ups and gearing changes will just spread the cars out and make the racing boring. The rules listed above by SteveM are the same as my club and all the modifications that should be allowed. Let's not destroy a good entry level class, emphasis should be on getting better as a driver instead of just building a better car.
My 8 year old has raced Spec Novice for 4 years with TT02-S that is TCS legal. It’s hopped up for durability. It didn’t give him any superior advantage until he turned 7, when his driving skills really kicked in and he placed first in April.
The TT hop ups are mostly bling, makes it fun.
The rules your talking about are the TCS GT Pro Spec class is actually not a Novice class. It’s dominated by experience drivers battling it out for that extra 0.1 second.
Attend the next TCS race and enter Pro Spec and see how you do.. it’s tough. I raced it last April and battled for 3rd and eventually succumbed and placed 4th

I always thought that TT-02s in R, RR, S and SR usually don't come with any motor...

Ill have to disagree with you there. Please read Tamiyas Spec Novice rules. It allows for any Tamiya hop up for TT02. They are accessible to all and None of which will give anyone a great advantage.

Guy and I worked closely together to make this class the success that it is. A mains are always seconds apart, sometimes tenths. Super tight racing, all driver. This is what it's great for beginners, that have the equipment from the get go, all they have to do is learn to drive smooth and they are in the mix.

I'm getting close to finishing a TT-02 SR car to run in VTA. How are people mounting motor cooling fans to their cars when using brushless motors? I do have a Yeah Racing heat sink/fan that I can clip on, but I'm looking for a cleaner looking solution. Any ideas?
