I run with Toodeep, he's a little faster down the straight than I am.
Saturday night vs those motors he posted specs for, my P2K2 which pulled 3.7A and 17,800rpm wasn't far behind on the straight. In the infield he was faster but then again so was everyone else (even when I changed motors my laptimes didn't change) newb that I am... I am .5 to 1 sec a lap slower than the experienced guys at our track. My best laps were in the 10.4 range, think Toodeep's were around 9.9 or perhaps 10 flat.
No load really means nothing, the rpm and amp data is not much more than a toy, though it can tell you if you have a serious motor problem.
Try a Reedy Quad mag, you will get the same amperage as your stocks and lower rpm typically. Which is faster? +)

I had a severe lack of speed last Friday night. I was very consistent at 27 laps in 509,510,511. Excellent handlingbut speed was not there.
Spent 4 hours playng with my APS on 3 mototrs and got some shocking improvements in RPM and Amp draw after fresh cuts.
When I started best RPM 19400 with 8.2A. Finished with 23100 at 10A. A big increase to be sure.
Now to the track, same gearing, running with some of the guys who who were blowing my doors off Friday. Almost the same straight speed. Very close. This with a deficit on batteries of over .01 volts.
Feeling a bit better on my chances now against my slower times earlier.
BTW the new layout has some real speed killers built in. Watch it.

I am more or less repeating what I have read from reading threads and posts by those who are more knowledgeble about these things. (actual paid tuners)
Perhaps you can tell if something you have done has changed the rpm or amp draw, but this doesn't neccessarily translate to on track performance. After last week I sat down and did some work to my p2k2, it pulled 3.8A and 17,500 rpm last Saturday night. It was maybe a tiny bit slower than anyone else on the straight - not much. I did a few things, got it up to 6+A and 19,800 rpm... Changed to a heavier set of springs Went up to 7.8A and almost 21,000 rpm I was pleased (not had chance to track test) Next day I test the motor again... 6.8 and 18,000 rpm... I did nothing to the motor except leave it overnight...
I really don't think you can trust the 'dyno' functions but hey they are neat to play with

a 19T will pull the same thing... so how does it reflect power?
yet a 19T may run 160watts+ while a stock motor does what? 100) or so? (maybe abit off with stock power, workin from memory.

I have a 19 turn that does about 114 watts and the highest I've seen any stock motor is about 70 watts. I use amp draw to determine the condition of the brushes. Most of my stock motors when I true and put in new brushes will pull around 8.5 amps. As the brushes seat the amp draw will go up some. When the amp draw drops I will true the comm and see if the amp draw comes back. If it doesnt I will replace the brushes.

Have used the APS unit for about a month now...everybody at my track asks me to dyno their motors! Dyno is a nice bonus. While not a "true" dyno, it is a great tool to see if you motor is up to speed. Charger function is good too. I like it better than my Novak Millenium. Would recommend in a minute. I read others have problems with the buttons...no problem here!
