APS Charge, Dyno, 3-in-1

Any one using one of these yet? I have been considering getting a dyno and for the price, this one has caught my eye. Any thoughts? What type of dyno is it and how does the dyno compare to others?

Steve @ speedtech just sent mine out.

It looks like a good unit. Charge/ motor run/dyno all in one!

No discharge feature tho but i use bulbs and trays for that.

I forgot to say you really can't compare #'s from seperate dyno's but you can use this unit to get the most from your motors.

It is a great unit. Alothough it will not give you as much information by any means as a true dyno such as the fantom or robitronic, it will provide a means for weading our your better motors and grabbing the rpm and amp draw from them. Mainly it shines because its very portable compared to other dynos, and can still charge.

Basically it is along the lines of the integy dyno. Not a true dyno but still usefull:nod:

I have one of these, i bought it almost 2 weeks ago.

it works great but i found the rpm sensor to be very sensative and i have had to get a new one, it charges great with no false peaks and the motor break in feature is completely programable

So I guess it's more like a motor manager then a true dyno.

well?

I was wondering about this charger too. Would this better a buy over the Ice ? Its $20 more so its in the same arena but just doesnt have the cycle feature. (I know, only 10 amps) and the ice doesnt have a motor checker.

So how do you weight the importance of the two seperate features that each charger has.

Ice - cycles at only 10 amps
APS - motor checker

.

anybody?

ChrisP 01-27-2005 11:50 AM

Ice has a motor run-infeature as well...jut no rpm checker....

The APS has anice backlit Reverse LCD screen...the ICE has graphing..but no backlight..
it's a matter of personal preference

I have this charger, it's a nice little unit, the "Dyno" is not really a dyno, just checks no load RPM, can weed out bad motors. The APS has a thermal cut off for charging as well (nice feature, just wrap the little thermal couple around the battery). The one thing I don't like about it, is the buttons are very hard to push. It has custom charge profiles, so once you set it up you can change profiles very quickly.
The ICE charger is a nice unit as well, it would be a toss up between the two. Windsorguy99 has an ICE charger, he could give you some more info on it.

The back lit screen is nice too, very easy to read in low light.

Can you run in motors and charge at the same time?

No
the charger has one set of leads and you need those leads for the motor and for the battery so there is no way to do both. Should buy two for that.....LOL:lol:

I have one and my only complaint is that the buttons are hard to push. It charges very well its small and lightweight. I'm planning on getting a second one.
