Default Clicking RX8 gen2 ESC and flashing LED 1-2 and LED 6-7

Clicking RX8 g2 and LED1-2 and LED 6-7 flashing:
I just finished installing the RX8 Gen2 with Pro4HD 4600kv motor in my SC10. Everything seemed to be working great. I tested the motor, fwd, brake and reverse all worked fine.
Then I connected the Hotwire2 via my Samsung S3, still ok.
I was having problems figuring out the HW2 Android App, connected and reconnected several times. Went to test the motor and nothing. I noticed that LED 1/2 and 6/7 are on and the ESC is clicking.
The sensor wire is seated and connected
Motor is set to 3, brushed fwd with delayed reverse
and I double checked the motor terminals, there does not seem to be any shorts between the terminals on the motor or on the ESC.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Looking for some gearing advice for the RX8 G2, with a T8 G2 1900kv. Will be in a X ray XB8E.

I had tried using one of the less expensive 1/8th scale ESC combo's, and had major heat issues. As in my motor was coming off after the 10min. main over 250f! I had tried gearing from 11 to 15 on the pinion, and it was hot no matter what. It would be OK with the 11 in a 6min qually, but in 10min, would over heat, plus was too slow. Speed of the buggy was good with the 15, but would get the hottest.

Needless to say, I went through the buggy, made sure nothing was damaged/binding etc, and it is fine. My only conclusion was either the motor or the ESC is at fault. So out with both and in with the Tekin.

Any advice is welcomed, both for gearing and for settings. I have set the punch control to 6, too low? Will be starting with the 15T pinion.

One other thought or point, I am using a 5000mah, 35C battery (4cell), could the battery cause the system to run hot? Thinking not, as this battery SHOULD be able to put out 175amp/2600Watts continuous.

I just ran my Xb8e for the first time this weekend and ran 15/46 gearing and it was fine and didnt even get hot. My track is a medium size 1/8 outdoor offroad track. I have the Tekin gen2 rx8 and 1900kv motor. I run a modified Ryan Lutz setup on my esc and it works great! If you want to find his setup go onto his fb page and you will be able to find it there. Ive upped my throttle and end rpm to be a bit higher than what Lutz runs. If you dont have the tekin hotwire, you neee to get it, it makes tuning the esc a breeze.

I use SMC 5000mah 50c 4s batteries and theyre perfect. A lower c rating battery can put strain on a esc as its trying to draw more power than what the battery can give, causing everything to heat up.

where are you topping out down the longest straight. If you are basically at WOT most of the track you can overheat a motor. Go to a larger pinion if that is the case.

In general I start my gearing to look to top out towards the end of the longest straight, then adjust gearing relative to temps and performance. I usually find I may change gearing by 1 tooth, if that.

Make sure your ABC wires are correctly connected and not touching. If all is good, perform a factory reset and re install your settings.

It was likely the "cheap esc" causing the heat issues. Try a 15T to start and run the car, check temps, etc.

I know it's been answered before but can't find the info. Running an RX8 Gen 2 with 1900 in an eb48 with Airtronics Mx11. Everything seems fine and runs fine but when I hook up the hot wire either thru PC or Samsung s4, I am only seeing 80.56 as the highest value for throttle. I have re-calibrated several times and checked all settings and trims. Current limiter is at 65 and brakes are at 75. This normal? Or do i need to calibrate with the throttle trim cranked up to 120? 150? to get 100%

apologize if this has been answered b4. I can't seem to find the info..thanks for the time

What is more accurate for temp monitoring, a temp gun on the outside can or using the Hotwire? I feel like I've seen some very different numbers using both, the Hotwire being the cooler of the two temps.

Your saying you installed a 4600kv motor which is "brushless" I take? Yet you say that "brushed" is selected. 1,2,6,7 indicates wrong motor selection.

I know this is not the correct thread but I am trying to help a buddy out. He just purchased a RS Gen2 with a redline 13.5 motor system. He wants to run it boosted in a 2wd SCT but does not know where to start with timing in the motor or esc and also a starting gear. Can someone point me in the right direction?

That is a number in which the software will accept a full throttle signal. It's not throttle percentage. As long as you're seeing a flat line, you're hitting WOT or wide open throttle. TO verify, hit WOT on your car and watch all led's ramp up, and flash.

It's a normal condition of the data logger.

http://www.teamtekin.com/hotwire/escsetups/index.html

there are also older 223 setups you can look at, but make sure you reduce boost running the RS Gen2.

Had an issue last weekend in my Tekno and this thread seems to be more active. I have a Gen2 RX8 with a Pro4HD and I ran a full 7200mAh battery through it outdoors. After I was done, I bought it back and plugged in a new battery and nothing turned on. Thought the battery was dead maybe, but verified it wasn't and tried a different one to boot. Same thing. Packed it up and did some diagnosing at home and realized once the fan was unplugged things worked as they should. Or it seems to I should say, as I didn't have it in the car or connected to the receiver.

Are fans notorious for going out and shorting these ESCs? It seems to me a new fan would do the trick, but wanted to make sure I asked those that know 10fold more than I do before blindly ordering fan(s)

Just wonder if anyone had this experience...

I put on a brand new RX8 Gen2 onto my new Mugen MBX7R Eco. On the bench everything works fine, and I could even tuned the ESC with hotwire and ran it around my home a couple of circles. Today when I bring it to the track, after connecting the batteries and tested servo right before I put on the body the ESC smoked and fire burst out from the fan! I immediately disconnect the batteries and was able to tear the esc off the chassis to put off the small fire. The ESC was ruined and it ruined my my day...

I heard and saw quite a few RX8 caught fire while the car was running, but blowing up before putting it on the track is really discouraging. Frankly my confidence on the RX8 is lost...
