Today when I bring it to the track, after connecting the batteries and tested servo right before I put on the body the ESC smoked and fire burst out from the fan! I heard and saw quite a few RX8 caught fire while the car was running, but blowing up before putting it on the track is really discouraging. Frankly my confidence on the RX8 is lost...
This is a twofold situation. Part one: Every once in a while there will be a dud from the factory. Happens with any manufactured goods of brand, price, model and product. Two: If the failure rate was 1 in 100 for tekin, and 1 in 50 for a different brand, you will see more Tekins fail if there are 1000 of those compared to 100 of the other brand. Don't get discouraged at this point, you purchased the highest quality ESC on the market.

Default Hotwire App Motor Temp Calc

Has the motor temp calculation in the data log on the hotwire mobile app been corrected yet?

Default Data Logger

Also, I still can't get data logger changes to take. I change the settings in data logger, close data logger and download settings from Hotwire. Am I supposed to leave data logger open or download the changes another way?

After I was done, I bought it back and plugged in a new battery and nothing turned on. Thought the battery was dead maybe, but verified it wasn't and tried a different one to boot. Same thing. Packed it up and did some diagnosing at home and realized once the fan was unplugged things worked as they should. Or it seems to I should say, as I didn't have it in the car or connected to the receiver.

Are fans notorious for going out and shorting these ESCs? It seems to me a new fan would do the trick, but wanted to make sure I asked those that know 10fold more than I do before blindly ordering fan(s)
Alright, I've taken off the fan and realized that one of the wires was rubbing on the ESC cooling fins below and has worn through the silicon sheath, providing a short for the ESC.

I have found a non-Tekin replacement, as I haven't read really great things about the fans and I can get two for the price of one Tekin fan. I just need to find out what the connector is that is used. Any help there? I can measure the pin spacing and get somewhere close, but figured maybe someone has already done this. I have the right crimping tools and would rather make a couple to have on hand in case.

NO reason to lose confidence. Anything can fail at any given time, it's Murphy's law at times as they say.

Please contact service@ or support@ and give them as much info as you can to help them determine what step is next. They like to get car info, gearing info, battery info, servo and radio system info, etc.

I'll do that either tonight or tomorrow. I had all 3 screws fall out of my motor after 2 1/2 battery packs. I thought it was my diff grinding come to find out the motor just fell apart. Then my RSX the data and port don't work.

if I am understanding you correctly, you are concerned about how thick they are?

In standard 1/8 Usage I wasn't concerned for my 1/8 buggy and truggy and have no issues to report.

The 12 awg wires that are included with the RX8 Gen 2 esc are perfect for any 1/8 or 4x4 SC Setup.
