You mean the conrod has room enough not to scratch against the backplate? Wouldn't that create more volume in the crankcase?

open your rear end cover (4 screws) and you see what i mean (the flat side).

The flat in the backplate is for piston clearance.

OMG... my eyes !!! not good , you are right, for piston clearance that is.

Perhaps don't screw the backplate too tight ?

That piston clearance is a must in all Nova based engines.

all ? i don't think any long rod engine like the mt-12 needs one, nova based or not.

and exactly what is "nova based" means ? seem people use that term all the time, but don't know exactly what it refer to.

At the end of it's life, most likely all engines will be dumb and forget to run .... Can I overhaul my JP FX5 / FX3 with Novarossi NS12S5 / S3 complete set of piston, conrod and sleeve ? Sorry.... poor question

Yes, you can just buy a plain NSR3/NSR5 piston sleeve set...
