Thanks. What I plan on doing is going this weekend and running 5 minutes runs and changing the shim each time, from stock down till o have none in. Thanks again.
The nicest Pinons on the market are the xray ones, if you can afford to shell out $20 on some every time you need one. I won a set (15-36) a year or so ago at a race raffel. One of these pinions with a JC SS spur gear and my car makes no noise.

I wish CRC made the gold lightweight pinions in 48p. Best 64p pinions ever.

The hard Ano Robinson pinions last longer than you might think. I can get a full season out of them in mod 2wd. I'm sure the high dollar ones are better but the Robinson's would let you know if going to aluminum would be worth the investment.
The losi hard anodized chamfered pinion gear are about $6 each. Try one out, I guarantee you'll like them. Silent operation and no wear so far after 10 packs in indoor clay. They are my new favorites because they are super light!
The last rrp al pinion I trashed was about 8 months old & in almost perfect condition. I let my kid set my gear mesh because I was in a hurry & didn't check it. He set it to loose & it was trashed after a 10 minute run
(still usable, but only in the most dire emergency). As long as you pay attention & set the mesh right they will last as long as any other aluminum part.

little fyi..Aluminum pinions work fine, and for a long time..
IF, they're hard Ano (not sure you can get anything else now), you run a gear cover (who doesn't) AND you run indoors with relatively low dust. I tried one outside on an average dry, dusty track...It lasted 5 minutes, taking the spur gear with it. Not stripped but it was nothing I would use or keep running.
Actually I don't like any pinion that's not hardened, aluminum or steel. I'm sure the Losi's are and I run the RRP Absolute pinions. The $3 plain steel RRP ones (you can tell because they're shinny) are absolute (no pun intended) JUNK.

Now for a more meaning full answer... Decreasing toe in the rear will decrease traction in the corners. basically if you are looking for more rotation (controlled) off power and on power decrease the toe angle
It also accelerates a little quicker and has less friction while running WOT
