Xray XB4 thread

Tim,
I have seen you racing your XB4 on You Tube. You seem to have a good setup for your car.
I am still working on the setup of mine for hard pack clay.
Would you be willing to share your current setup?
Thanks!
Mark

Hi guys, has the V2 kit resolved all the initial launch issues? Thanks,

Car is solid, the upgrade pack seemed to fix all the issues besides leaky shocks, either crank the cap on or get the new o-rings.
Besides stuff that was revised in the update package I've only managed to break one outdrive because I didn't have the correct up travel limiters. Still yet to break an arm or any part these buggies usually break.

Great, but do I need the metal NT1 gears and alum pins? Thanks,

I've raced the car 2 nights a week for the last 3 months on an outdoor hard packed track in modified, and not had any failures using the standard diff parts. I would suggest using the updated crown gear though as it tightens the tolerances. Also be sure to set the slipper correctly.

Tim,
My setup is pretty much stock. It is very quick, but "nervous" compared to the Associated B44.2 that I own as well. We run on a hard packed clay surface that has medium to high traction and is watered lightly a couple times throughout the day. It feels that the car is stiff, as it does bounce a bit, and the rear end is always kind of loose. My diff oils are 7 front, 5 rear. I have tried lighter shock oils, but still the 3 hole pistons. My latest oils were 32/27.5 F/R. I widened the rear end .75 per side.
I admit my setup skills are lacking. Got spoiled with the B44.2 which is easy to setup. I simply always wanted an xray kit, since they seem like super quality. It was an excellent build, but just trying to get that suspension dialed in. My next idea is to move the rear lower shock mount to the inner hole location.
I ran both cars last night. The xray was a handful for me. Both car run 6.5T motors, but the xray seemed much quicker, probably due to the low drag drivetrain. Just lacking keeping the tires firmly planted to the clay.
It's a keeper for sure. So any setup tips are welcome and would be gratefully received.

i think those oils are a little too light. I'm liking 37.5 (close to the stock 450cst) up front and 30 wt in the rear shocks but with the shocks mounted on the inner holes in the arms.

yea everybodys oils are different and that has to be taken into account, the kit setup it seemed pretty plush to me, links to oil charts if you need em http://www.petitrc.com/reglages/OilChart.pdfhttp://www.twf8.ws/php/tip/shock.html
the best way to take the "nervousness" out of the car is to put in less motor, 6.5 is fun but I can't drive one slow enough to run fast laps with that much motor, fun as heck but... 8.5 or even 10.5 and hammer down is easier to run consistently.

Thanks for the ideas. I will look at the oils and revisit the motor idea. Thing is, I run the same 6.5t in the B44 and, on our track, its sweet
But maybe I can try turning the EPA down on it a bit. I do agree that sometimes slower is faster!

Went to 7/7 diffs last night and the buggy felt fantastic. Much more controlled and the rear was a bit more locked in on a loose wet track. Now I just need to figure out my rear shock setup. 30wt losi/6x1.2/1 dot springs bounces around a bit too much.
Tried a 17.5 blinky setup too. kimborough spur, AE pads at 69/30 was pretty good and drops right in with no issues, although temps are high.
