I know I will need to get a solid servo/arm in so that I wont have to go through and deal with issues.
I would look into this servo:

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ium-Gear-Servo

It's faster has more torque and its $40 bucks less

But ultimately it's your decision. The Gen aces however are only 25c and that depending on your system is going to stress the battery heavily. You should benchmark 35c or more. I think C rating is extremely overhyped... But a "true" 35c battery won't be stressed by the power.
The Turnigy nano-tech's are the best bang for the buck. I think it's worth picking up one set of those to use for practice and as a backup even if you decide to go with a more expensive option for racing.

I don't really mess with the standard Turnigy's they are ok for light loads but have a lower charge rate and see to have a shorter lifespan.

Out of the 2 nano's I bought one pack still works great, holds it's voltage all the way though the pack, the other started to produce a studder at startup not far into the pack.

I'll be trying out the Orion 90C's this weekend and see how they perform vs. the nano-tech's

How do you go about using military discount?

Racing or bashing? I would go with a 4 pole either way, but if just bashing I would get a 550 4 pole but right now only 540 4 poles and 550 2 poles are allowed by ROAR.

If going tekin: If not doing the exotech and/or adding a lot of extra weight 4000kv is plenty, with more weight and running on 1/8 scale then consider a 4600.

I'm running the exo tek and pro4 4000kv i think at 15/62 and it could use a little more top end (which I may just fix with gearing) but all the torque you could make use of.

True, but if your only a club racer most tracks don't care. Most like my track for 4x4's is run what you brought so it doesn't matter if it were a 4pole 550 or even a 6pole 1/8th motor ;-)

Depends on what gear your running, a larger "T" pinion won't fit into the motor mount so you'll have to slide the motor in through the mount then install the pinion.........

Default Fixed servo saver?

Anyone every try locking down / eliminating the servo saver on the 4x4? I did the avid setup on the 2wd and really like feel and haven't had any torque or breakage issues out of the savox "high speed" Ti servo. I'm running the "high torque" version of the same servo on the 4x4 and I think it can handle it. Trying to think of a realistic way to calculate how much torque a servo must support.

I was thinking of either gluing down the saver, but it seems to lock down tight enough on it's own. Without a metal link it may not feel any different.

Doesn't STRC make a Al rack? Anyone try it?

I have the STRC rack on mine. I switched to it after breaking the stock steering rack. It fits nicely and looks great. I think if you lock down the stock plastic steering rack, it will eventually break. I would not hesitate to do it with the STRC rack and a good servo.
