The black oxide new AE ones, and the gold nitrated ones are between .0267 to .0268. The chrome old style and the new chrome ones with the socket in the heads are only .0264 to.0265 diameter. If you want the very tightest ball cups available, those would be the old white xxx losi cups. They just look "out of place" on the B4's because of their color, so I stick with AE cups and longer than stock lunsford tie rods. If you have NO threads showing with your ties rods, you have more strength, it's that simple. Guys, if you just have to have something RPM, make it a parts tray or a camber guage, aight?

Fantastic response....factual,well thought out...big thumbs up mate
Appreciated...Thank you

Now,do i go stealth with oxide and black AE cups,or some factory bling with the Nitrate's

And the high torque rotor is definitely a good upgrade with the 17.5. And the vent's you don't have to worry about, if you are going to worry about it, take your motor apart at the end of every weekend and blow it out with air.
I noticed the last few weekends, 80% of our stock field run these motors, me included. Have now just purchased the 10.5t for my 4WD to run in Mod as well. Great motor, stays cool and has great punch even with 72/35 combo.

Cheers

Yep. They went on my new kit @ build and right back off it when I finished putting the car together in favor of the $3 plastic b44 hubs. Such a shame they looked so nice too.

Just do the set screw mod....then you get both tight and sexy

Keep in mind bro that all the pro's run these blue hubs...that little bit of slop that seems to be bothering you is no big deal at all. It's not like you are setting diamonds here.

Are there any clear instructions on how to do this? I just finished building my Worlds kit.

not really, just drill and tap a hole on the bottom of the hub for a 5-40 or 4-40 set screw so it locks down onto the hinge pin.

Does it make a difference in performance, that's debatable I guess. Plastic hubs are tighter, worked for years and still work. So IMO, does the slop really hurt, maybe not but it doesn't give any benefit either. Personal preference really, and I prefer tight and sexy over loose and sloppy.

why would you need the high torque rotor for the 17.5 Revtech?

Wouldn't that blow the tires off on the low end?

leave the 81 on it and throw a 25 pinion on. run a few laps and check temp. I would also probably run some boost on this track because of how big it is....have some of the speed come on later so you still keep the smoothness out of the turns but on those big straight sections it has some kick.

17.5's have to be geared really tall to be fast, thus making the low end softer as a side effect. If you throw the HT rotor in, it adds to that low end while allowing you to keep the high end. In theory you would get more high end too because your temps would drop slightly and you could gear up another tooth

so more power low end, more power high end = winning IMO

I'm not a fan of running a motor with a lot of cooling vents cause I run outdoors sometimes and dont want the clay n sand to get inside.
I have a Viper 17.5T
It has no problem running with or out running any other 13.5T or 17.5T motor on the track.
It evens doesn't have a hard time running with 10.5's or a few 8.5's on some of the tracks

Temp is about 145-155 from 5-7 mins of running.
