Right, but that shows the o-ring which (obviously) can be installed any direction. We were wondering about the u-ring and which direction. As stated, I am going with the open side towards the fluid.

All the manufacturers current short (20mm spring) shocks have an ID of 11.2mm. I would wager a guess that they are 11.5mm with a slight chance of being 12.0mm ID.

Would love to know for sure...

that is tough to answer because each can is built differently and you are only measuring the surface temp of the can when the stator windings are much higher! I have seen guys comfortable at 180 F...

I have found a no load draw between 6 and 7 amps is a good place to start. Every motor is a little different but it seems to range from @ 46 to 53 actual degrees for the above amps.
