Lots of people run 1/10 scale ESCs on 3S in their rigs, which decreases BEC amperage. I run the RX8 in my rigs since they were designed for higher voltages and have a BEC to accommodate.

If the ESC doesn't accept the reverse signal during calibration then the radio EPA is set too low. It looks for a specific signal for full reverse and if it doesn't see what it wants, it won't finish...
