I've got a Tekin RX8 Gen3 displaying 5.65 volts on the Sanwa M12s telemetry. Same voltage indicated on multimeter with ESC disconnected from receiver. When Hotwire3 App is activated BEC voltage drops to 4.35 and remains till App is terminated the goes back to 5.65. Hotwire3 BEC set to 7.4v. Any experience with this problem would be appreciated.

Should not be a problem. When the esc is in link mode is just doing different things then when in normal operation mode. We do not want to be putting out HV bec voltage or need the higher voltage at all when linking with hotwire.

I'm not concerned with the voltage being low when Hotwire3 is active as long as it's within the Hotwire3 operating parameters. The primary problem is the BEC voltage being low at 5.65v, should be 6v, and the inability to increase it to 7.4v via Hotwire3.

I am trying to connect my hotwire3 to my rx8 gen3 esc and it can't connecti via my iphone(15.29.0) app. it works with my RX8 gen2 but just not with my gen3's I have 2 of them and they still don't connect. When I plug in the HW gen3 into the fan connector all I see is a dim blue light. BTW my batt is full charge, I have upgraded to the latest release on both RX8's(V272) and the hotwire works when it is physically connected to my PC.

Any ideas. A friend told me that my hotwire might need to be updated.

I apologize for missing your point. Sounds like you are using the IOS app which did have a bug that set the BEC voltage incorrectly. However as of the new version it should be fixed. Are you using the newest 15.29.0 version of the App?

That is not something we have seen before. If the Hotwire units work with the gen2 units then seems they are fine. Probably need to email [email protected] so we can dig into it with you step by step to make sense of it. You do have to leave the fan setting set to always on for the Hotwire to work in the data port, but that should be the default after you updated them and set there already, also would not cause a dim blue light.

Do You get the bright red LED on the Hotwire3 in normal operation?

My fault, after re-reading my reply it did sound a bit terse. My apology. Yes 15.29.0 is the version I'm using. The PC version is working fine, 6.0v yields 6.10v at the receiver and 7.4v produces 8.02v. No complaint about the high voltage of 8.02, I'm an old guy racing against the young and need all the voltage and servo speed i can get. LOL

I answered this question in another thread. What meter are you using?

On your Gen3, make 100% sure your fan setting is set to "always on." If it's set to be thermally controlled it will not power the HW BE unit up properly. The Gen2 should be defaulted in alaways on, so should the Gen3; but I have seen guys switch it by accident.

Randy,
Thanks for the reply. I’ve been working with Dan at Tekin and found the voltage problem is with the HotWire3 IOS app. Changing the voltage via PC is normal 6.0v yields 6.10 and 7.4v is 8.03 at the receiver. Using Sanwa M12s telemetry and Fluke true RMS multimeter.

Default Tekin RX8 GEN3 + Pro 4 HD 550 ????kv Losi SCTE 3.0

I am brand new to this hobby & using forums so my apologies if I am not doing it correctly. But I have been looking for the answer to my question for days. I purchased the Team Losi SCTE 3.0 kit & assembled it. I just received my Tekin RX8 ESC but have no idea what kv motor I should get. I am pretty sure I want the Pro4 HD 550, I am using the stock pinion etc. I would like a top end that's fairly fast but I also want it to launch out of the corners and not have a slow-to-wind-up low end. Thinking about racing locally and the only restriction is 2S batteries. Thank you for your input and or pointing me in a good direction.

Pro4 HD 4300 is a monster hp motor... tons of fun if you like to grab a handful of throttle... depends if your track has room to enjoy it.
I have a 4300 that I would turn down quite a bit. Currently running a Tekin 4600. A friend and close competitor of mine runs the 4000.
(less power = more control i.e. slower is faster)

On 2s either Pro4 HD 4300 for all out power, or 4600 which was my choice most of the time. IN the TLR the 4600 is tough to beat.

Thanks Randy, I ordered the Tekin Pro 4 HD 4300kv. Sounds like I made the right choice. Plus I would rather have a little extra power and try and figure out how to turn it down a little rather than wishing I had more power. I'm thinking I'm going to be happy with my purchase.
