This motor only comes alive at 55+ timing. Others and myself have tried lower timing and the motor is a dud.

Ordered my Fantom IonV5 Works Edition Short Stack 17.5 yesterday. Going to start out with gearing it at 69/33 (5.43 FDR) or so at 58-60* timing. It is going to be replacing my D4 17.5 Maxzilla and Certified Killshot 17.5 so it has some big shoes to fill but from what I have been told if any motor is going to do it then this is he one.

Right now I am running about 57* timing on my standard D4 Maxzilla and about 68* in the Killshot... Both run pretty comparable with 69/32 gearing and come off at about 150 after a 5-6 minute heat with no Fan. I have also ordered the chassis brace that fits the 25mm fan to add to my B5M and until it gets there I am running the fan brace like the the R1 Wurks thread

I would start at a 69/29 or 30 max to start. The motor has more RPM so you have to gear accordingly.

Quick question. I'm currently geared 75/26 on my T5M w/ shaved idle gears, orion r10 pro and D4 maxilla for an indoor clay track. With the current settings, I over heated after the main around 180ish. I asked around with the same chassis and noted that my gearing is right on the money and they were temping around low 150's. I just hope that I didn't burn the motor since my friends and I noticed my motor fading towards the end of the main. Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thanks

How heavy is the truck? What timing? What size battery? (shorty?)

You need a fan, that's not even a question.

I'm using R1 wurks shorty pack and the motor timing is at 45. as far as the fan is concerned, what would you recommend and it's placement

I am running a B5M Lite with 72/32 with a Reedy 17.5 I am looking for something with more punch to it and I am thinking about Trinity D4 1S "Certified" Short Stack Brushless Motor (17.5T).

I would like to hear comments about the Trinity vs Reedy?
My gearing?
plus any other help... thanks

Considering you are on a trinity thread think you will know the answer you will get. Personally went from reedy to schuurspeed and now to fantom (trinity) d4 ss. Very happy with my choice. Have to make sure to gear and likely fan accordingly. Motors run fast and hot.

off the shelf d4 ss will be probably a tick faster than your reedy. you start getting into certified or fantom or eam tuned and the d4 starts to separate itself.

looking at both the certified or fantom works version of the d4 17.5 1s. Anyone drove both? Any recommendations on which one i should go with? Fantom comes with ceramic bearings and was wondering if this was anything to be concerned with on a motor?

Deff go with Fantom I had a D4 1S before I got on Fantom and it was fast and to be completely honest I didn't think the Fantom team version would be that much faster but believe me it was. And this weekend I won stock buggy at the North American Indoor Championships at Sparks Park RC and 5 or 6 of the 10 cars in the A main were running Fantom motors and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd all were running the Fantom Ion5 SS. It is one of if not thee fastest stock motor on the market.

Right now I am running 69/32 but I usually run 69/33 but needed the extra punch for the triple they had in the layout. I still haven't quite figured out these short stacks 100% it seems like they like between a 5.4 to 5.7 FDR but finding out exactly which one is the fastest and feels the best isn't easy and I'm running right at 59 or 60 degrees of timing, as has already been said these motors don't come alive until you hit 55 to 60 degrees of timing.

And yes you are completely right I was blown away at how good their mod motors are too. Also their new battery's are incredible as well. I picked up one of their 4400 mah "Sport packs" for mod that they were selling for really cheap and the IR on it was lower than the IP 5000 mah "Stock battery" I bought awhile ago when it was new. But I would still get their 4600 for stock.
