Trinity D4 17.5
#316
Hi Erik, I am very intrigued by this piece of equipment! Could you please tell me little bit of what is does and the benefits as I have quite an arsenal of 17.5 motors including a new 17.5 Certified Handbuilt D4 Big Blue that I have not even tried yet. Your time is greatly appreciated.

You cant really compare the 2. The Big Blue is not ROAR legal due to the wire used in the stator construction. The Maxzilla is ROAR legal. I would assume the Big Blue has a ton of bottom end power. I run the Maxzilla(Certified) in all stock classes and it's a beast. Plenty of power and doesnt fade. Great motor!

Fair enough. So comparing the standard Maxzilla vs the Certified Maxzilla is there a noticeable difference? I am getting walked on by a Killshot and am currently running the D4 Maxzilla (Standard) and the killshot passes me down the straight like I am in a school zone and leaves me out of the hole like I forgot to put it in gear...lol

Maybe that guy is cheating somehow?

You should not be getting walked by any motor other then another D4. What is your set up? Vehicle, gearing, battery?

The D4 comes standard with a 12.3mm rotor. The D4 Maxzilla comes standard with a 12.5mm HT rotor. The Certified motors are similar to the Maxzilla with a 12.5mm rotor but they are hand built to very high standards.

I am running a B5M, Inline battery setup, Tekin RS Gen2 ESC in Blinky, D4 Maxzilla, 33/69 or 34/69 gearing with 50* can timing, 4600mah 100c Prime Battery or 4500mah 100c Trinity depending on which one is charged.
I know that my motor runs strong because I don't have any issues other than this Killshot that does straight walk on everyone else. Just to give you an idea I would say average fast lap time right now for stock buggy is around 15.3-15.5sec for the A Main drivers. This guy is running 14.7-14.9sec fast lap times

based on your last paragraph, it would seem pretty likely that the guy is cheating. killshots are strong motors no doubt, but "walking" a D4? highly unlikely. i could see it being comparable or MAYBE a virtually unnoticeable tick faster, but again, "walking"? i think something's up with the guy's motor.

I know that the Maxzilla comes with the 12.5mm rotor. I have owned both the 12.3 D3.5 and the Maxzilla D3.5 so when the D4 Maxzilla that is what I bought.

The V5 is a D4. If you remove that label it says Trinity D4. Fantom uses the Trinity motor for a base and offer some of there own upgrades and tweaks. This is very similar to the Certified 5% line Trinity offers. They are all D4's though.

The reason for the lower gearing is because you are increasing the timing on the motor. How big is the track you race on?

You're right, I just checked my SC10 again and I am running 26/72 on it currently. I still think that dropping down to a 30/72 is going to kill top end. I will try it and see. Worst case scenario I will change it back or adjust it anyway.
