Is there any reason/benefit in updating my radio? Ive been holding back on updating my 4PX as I remember reading some bad comments here. Right now Im running on the stock V1.0 firmware and the radio is working fine.

I have not upgraded either, still working fine.

Me too, works very well. I'm waiting the new software, if it has a good feature, I would update

Lots of these for sale all of a sudden....

Nobody?

Nope
My 4px has worked flawless since the day I unboxed it. (Knock knock)

yeah in anticipation of the new one I suspect.

I'm currently running a 4PX (which I love) and T-FHSS receivers all the way around.

This might be a dumb question but is there any benefit to running the FASST receivers? The FASST receiver I was looking at is just over double the price of the R304SB-E I use in my other vehicles.

Wondering the same thing and have found contradicting information with no definitive answer.

Also FWIW in reply to the for sale post, I just picked mine up for $400 with 2 receivers and a reedy life battery. Pretty stoked. :sneaky:

FASST is Futaba's own proprietary system which boast better connection and longer range.

FHSS is just a simple frequency hoping system and doesnt check on the brand or any errors. Also its much cheaper to produce hence the significant price difference.

There are other more technical differences between them, but as for the speed between the 2, I have yet to come across any review staying which is faster. I dont think, at the speed these system operates on, we would even notice the difference

I guess my main questions are.
1. Curves for steering / throttle?
2. Brake setup?
3. BIG one in regards to why do they go beyond 100% on throttle? If you calibrate the ESC, is there any benefit to adding more than 100% at the radio? Before/after? I've HEARD something about "potimeter resolution" but no real clue and coming up empty when searching.

Anybody that really knows what's up with proper setup?

Thanks!

If it is electric keep the 100% setting on brake/throttle. If it is nitro you have to setup the end points to prevent damaging the motor. You won't notice the difference between 100 and 150%, it's perception.

I never use curves on any model but I prefer a 70/30 balans on throttle/brake. Others use the standard (for futaba) 50/50.

doesn't a 70/30 (electronic) bias with a the fix trigger (physical trigger travels) give you a positive exponent effect?

No.
Picture it this way:

The throttle and brake together have 100 positions that the radio can recognize

at 50/50 50 point are for throttle and 50 points are for brake

at 70/30 70 points are for throttle and 30 point are for brake

the 70/30 allows the radio to notice less movement of the throttle as movement because it can see 70 positions not only 50. SMOOTHER :)

If physical trigger have 8mm movement for 100 points when you set it to 50/50. Now same physical movement,8mm, to 140 points when it's at 70/30. Linear, proportional?

ToddMcM 10-15-2015 02:22 PM

Hmmmm....

Does it matter if it's technically linear or proportional? I think it is actually proportional but the bottom line, is that it makes sense to me that same throttle travel with more data points equals smoother. (wonder if it makes a real world difference?)
