Is the polarity right ? Negative wire on the fan should be on the side closest to the sensor plug .....

6500 will run more than 5 minutes. Make sure your ran comes on the esc when powered up.

You may have a bad battery also. How many mah does it take after you have this issue?

What are u talking about (ran) the 6500 is taking 6000

He meant fan.

O the fan was working at first but after first run it was off and missing blade fan is set to run all the time but just bought a aftermarket fan to keep it cool that pluged in rx not esc

If after 5 minutes your 6500mah battery is taking a 6000mah charge than your pack is dead and you're hitting LVC.

I will tell you that dumping a 6500 in 5 minutes would lead me to believe that either something is wrong with your car, or your battery or both.

Like said, try without the fan but the fan shouldn't have anything to do with the problem.
Eliminate it completely to rule that out. If your geared even close to correct it is not a problem and the ESC will protect itself with thermal cut off if there is an issue.

If your getting 3 min runs from a 6500 and putting 6000 back in, somethings wrong and I can't see how it would be the ESC.

I don't either but 2 lipos going bad at same time going to let my buddy try them

fq06 09-19-2013 04:49 PM

And grab a pack from your buddy.

Don't rule out your charger either!

what profile/settings should I be putting in my rx8 to get it into a mode with no timming for a 1/8 scale motor

If you don't have a HotWire, just leave it on TP1.

TP1. this is covered in the manual.

@ quick dump Max amps battery guy
If you just switched to the RX8, you may find that you have a lot more power on tap, but are just converting it into wheelspin when driving a motor like the TenShock 4600 (or even more with the Pro4 HD 4300). This will drastically reduce your run time if you keep using that power.

Most of us in 4wd SCs with such power hungry motors use a bunch of current limit. Set current limit to 75% and see if you notice a power difference. If you don't, keep it there or limit even further...if you do, raise it by 5% until you don't. This should help your run time quite a bit, as well as your temps, if my theory is correct.

Also, to dump that much that fast, check your bearings and for worn out CVDs/dogbones that might "catch" during the rotation. Pull the pinion from the motor and your vehicle should roll completely freely. If it doesn't, find out why and fix it. Also check to make sure your diffs aren't empty/low.

@ Randy:
A few pages back you asked me to get my full setups for my 2 systems to try and help me make my Gen2 combo feel like my Gen1 combo (Gen1 seems more responsive and much easier to make short run up gap jumps, though top speed down the straight seems the same). I finally got to the HotWire at the track with them both. Each is in a Tekno EB48 with an 18t pinion, using the same SMC 6500 4s pack.

These are the settings. The one difference that jumps out to me is the RPM for timing stuff. Both were set up by hitting the calc rpm button while connected to their respective t8 1900 motors and choosing the top rpm available so it would only be active at the top rpm range, but the numbers are very different.

Gen1 RX8 w/ T8 1900 running 223 software:
13v cutoff, bl-dl
no drag, 65% brake, no push, brake min 5
25 neutral width, no current limit, 40% reverse, throt min 0
C2, 5 timing, 28251-32034 rpm
linear curve (3)

Gen2 RX8 w/ T8 1900 running 238 software:
13.5v cutoff, bl-dl
no drag, 50% brake, no push, brake min 0
25 neutral width, no current limit, 35% reverse, throt min 0
C2, 5 timing, 18471-20016 rpm
linear curve (3)

We'll thanks for the tips I have run that motor and setup with the tekin gen2 but I had done a conversion from 1.0 scte to 2.0. This was first run so it has all new bearing and tekno drive lines through out and new hd diffs. There are no binding parts everything is super smooth with the acer ceramic's. I have since put my new 4300kv motor in and bought a new lipo charger. My buddy used my lipo on a 4000kv tenshock scte and got 13min of hard driving. So it's not the lipos thankfully. The only wierd thing I have noticed was since I have not made it back to track I was testing new motor I noticed that when I put the brakes on it goes strait to reverse. I normally have reverse locked out but was going to put it on for practice with no marshall's . This had to pull a lot of current IMO going to take reverse off. Won't be able to make it to track till next week but hopefully everything will work. Thanks
