Official Tekin RX8 GEN2 ESC Thread

Now I'm pissed off. LEDs 1,2, 6&7 are flashing. WTF?
I bought this to replace the Gen1 on my son's car that went bad and I was hoping to race tomorrow.
Now I have two ESC's that don't F#$king work.

I've never paid attention to which lights flash while hooked up to hotwire but it recognized the ESC? Then you changed the settings that you wanted to and applied settings and it completed?
You've calibrated?
From there you should be able to disconnect hotwire and drive.
After you did the above it is not working?

The error associated with those lights are:
Wrong motor type selected.
Internal ESC or motor short
My option is to try another motor.

Maybe try a reset first, may not be the fix, but it will only take a minute. Its in the manual think, its been a year since I had to do it but I think you hold both buttons at the same time and that should wipe it.
Then hook up to hotwire and calibrate.
Otherwise with those codes, yeah I guess check solder joints and change motor if needed. Your motor is a new motor?

batterie still was good, because after switching on an off I ran 3 more laps with no problems.
Is there a temp cut of for the esc ?

I spent pretty much all day sorting this out crap out. I gave my son my old Gen1 and motor, and I took his motor and upgraded to Gen2.
This stuff can get pretty damn frustrating.
Thanks again.

This forum is great for figuring things out. As I was setting the gen2 rx8 I went to my rspro with the hotwire to see what one of the settings were and I noticed in the dashboard it said on the bottom left race spec lock on. So I went into the timing tab and the race spec box is not checked. Anybody know how the race spec mode could be on if the box isnt checked cause my other rspro says race spec lock off and all my settings are the same. Anybody have any ideas.

I had same problem as MrMorninwood. After a month ESC showed internal short (Leds 1,2,6and 7) with gen1 motor. After disconnecting the motor, esc seemed OK but there was no chime anymore. Motor was not over geared or something. Reset did not help, because as soon as I hit throttle it went back to that error(with little smoke, dont know whether it was from motor or esc). So its on warranty repair right now. I choose tekin over castle because of reliability, so I am little disappointed.
According to manual timing of gen2 ESC can be set to 7 profiles and default should be 1 - no timing. When my ESC was set to defaults, timing was set to profile 3 or 4. Is that normal? I have tried to understand "timing", found some articles, but I am not really sure what it does still. I want my motor to run as cool as possible, I set it to TP1 0*timing advance profile. Is that right?

Hay Randy or others,
What's the best way to mount the esc to the chassis? I have used padded servo tape and other double sided tape but once dirt gets in there around the bottom of the esc, it eventually comes off. After it comes off I usually put a bead of shoe goo around the bottom. Should I just keep doing that or is there a better way.
I have seen people use some really hard plastic Velcro from Walmart. I don't know if that works or not.
Thanks guys
