Just becasue you received a "new" system is no gurantee that the software is the latest rev. I purchased a "new" Futaba system last week and it did come with an old rev rx as confirmed by John Adams at Horizon. They have very, very, very few problems like mine, but just because the unit is a new shipment is not a gurantee that you might not end up with an old rx with a new system. If you install and use the system and you have latency issues, then send the rx to John and they will fix it right up - do not give up on the S\pektrum - It works and is the future of our hobby!

Updated units.

Fro reading this thread, am i correct in saying that there has been a change in "software' or at least an update put through some of the newer made units?

If so does anyone know where i can get the latest version of the gear?

Im lloking forward to gettingmy Ko spektrummed, but ther eis no LHS that stocks the in Australia.
So im looking at US, but how do i know who has the "latest" units available?

Any help would be great

Unfortunately there are no gurantees. All the new units manufactured have the new code, but once they get put on a shelf with older units there is no easy way to tell which is which. The only realy indicator is actual performance or by how fast the unit "binds" with the Tx during the systsem setup. Unless you have a"new" rx to compare to - the binding speed may be hard to compare unless you have used the new units.

spektrum

rskiba,
i "bound" my ko spektrum last night and it did it almost instantly, certainly less than 1 second. is it a pretty good chance i got the new software? like you said i have nothing to compare it to so i am not sure.
thanks

Bluey, you've got PM :)

I emailed Mike @ Mike's hobby shop and he said he's out of Spectrum futaba transceivers and they're on backorder?!?

They actually make transceivers that need to match the system they're binding too? I thought spectrum made only one transceiver, and they're versitial enough to bind to any system (M8, KO, 3PK etc..) I'll have to call Horizon to confirm this...

theisgroup 04-08-2005 05:34 AM

you may have just confused mike. You have to know him, sometime he just zones out. I will be there this weekend and can check to see what they have on the shelf. You are correct John, the transcievers are not keyed to the type of transmitter. Maybe Mike is soo use to calling them rx, that when you said transciever he thought transmitter. lol

Ok - Check it out and let me know. I really want another one for my other touring car.

I was there yesterday and he had three transceiver only units in stock. He was out of the Futaba TX/RX package systems. Like Theisgroup mentioned, Mike must have been confused about your request. He did have three (3) JR R-1 TX/RX systems and two (2) of the latest batch of M8 TX/RX systems if you know people looking for them. Wild Bill's in Irving, TX had about eight (8) of the RX transceiver units in stock as of 4/6/05. Give them a call if you have not luck with Mike.

Thanks, I emailed mike back and got it clarified that I only wanted the RX (or transceiver) 80+6 shipping, and he doesn't take checks, paypal or credit cards! I think I'll have my local track order me one instead, but thanks for checking.

John

Yea, I talked to Mike on Friday and he is having an issue with Paypal at this time. If it wasn't for that, he would have shipped it out to you that day. He does take money orders if you want to go that route. But, good luck getting another transceiver.

Here's something to ponder... any other insight would be welcome.

I was browsing through the pics of last weekend's Losi off-road champ races here: http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/t...p?album=246203 (thanks for the great pics Racer_Chick!), and I noticed something. It doesn't appear that any of the pros are using the Specktrum system... which I find interesting.

Now, I figure it's one of two reasons:
1. They have sponsorship contracts with radio companies which prevents them from using aftermarket goodies in their radios. (Which doesn't really make sense becuse how were they able to test the Spektrums? Perhaps newly written clauses in their contracts?)
2. They've all quit using them because they don't trust them, as witnessed by the troubles they had at national level carpet events and other selected races.

What do you guys think?
