I ended up putting a 4700uF cap on all the spektrum setups... not that it needs it, but just in case it drops out unexpectedly... like in the middle of a main ro something like that. I guess its a small weight penalty for peace of mind... :) Hope you sort it out!

Make sure with Tekin and LRP ESC's that you use power caps on the ESC's themselves. That will help immensely. It has to do with the power output of the BEC not being strong enough.

you can say that with almost any esc to be honest dude, i think the spektrum is more susceptible to problems than analogue 40Mhz

Actually I'll disagree with that. The LRP and Tekin ESC's have had the most issues and the problem stems around the lower BEC output. KO, Novak, Keyence and others have not had the same issues. Now I am not saying that Tekin or LRP are bad units. I have run both. I am just saying those two manufacturers tend to have low BEC issues more frequently that other units. I had a QC2 that was unusable with my SR3500 until I installed the Worlds Performance kit on it. That seems to take care of the voltage drop issue. Now the only more current Tekins I have used has been the Mini-Rage and the B1 Forward-Only. The Mini-Rage had some low BEC issues that was solved by the installation of the SPM1600 Voltage Protector. The B1 seems good so far with an SR3500; But that includes a small power cap as well.

...then again, the Spektrum is legal for use in the US where the 40Mhz is not...

Friends, Im planning to purchase a spektrum dx2. Is this a good radio system? I mainly race on the streets. Im gonna use this for 2 surface models. Or should I get the futaba 3pm2.4g instead? Im worried about slow response times ive read in some forums. Another thing, the dx2 comes with 2 servos, are these better than futaba 3003 servos? Last one, the kits im building will use Muchmore Drive ESCs, will the BEC power be enough to power the spektrum receiver?

Spektrum listed 2 modules for Futaba... SPM1014 and SPM1015 . Which one is the latest greatest for 3PK with HRS? I have an impression that the SPM1014 Pro series is the newest one, but it doesn't say if it will work with HRS.

I am not familar with the Much Moore ESC's so I don't know if there has been an issue with them or not. If you have an issue, the SPM1600 Voltage Protector solves the issue 99% of the time. In terms of slow response time, if you're going to be using the included servos you more than likely will not feel a difference between the DX2.0 and say a Pro Series system. I would also reccomend checking out this next link and reading about Latency and Resolution:

The SPM1014 is the Pro Series version for the 3PK. It is Not HRS-compatible. The HRS version is the SPM1015. Now be aware that the HRS Versions are not compatible with Telemetry. Also, the only receivers that work with the HRS Module is the SPM1202 SR3000HRS receiver. It is not compatible with the SR3000, SR3001, or SR3500 receivers. Now you are correct that the Pro Series version is the latest release, but it is not HRS compatible. That system was actually released about 6-months before the Pro Series was.

thanks for the reply... so my 3pk cannot be used with the 3500 micro receiver then... doh :o

It can, just not in HRS mode.

DX3R

Does anyone know of an unbiased review of the new Spektrum DX3R (not the DX3.0). I can't seem to find much info about it apart from the marketing pitch thats on the Spektrum site.

Thanks,

P.

Not Accurate... The spectrum receivers struggle due to high current draw of the servos that must pass thru them.

The new Tekin speedos have a better BEC that actually supplies more current and maintains voltage better. A weaker BEC actually causes less problems. It is not a voltage supply issue. It is a voltage stability issue at the receiverdue to current surges. Larger current equals larger ripple on the 6v line.

The G11 does not have a regulated BEC which allows it to supply all the current that is asked for. IN the 90's this was the best BEC available until servos started drawing huge current.... which we supply to our own demise until it literally melts the solder in the esc and basd things happen. All new Tekin speedos have a very good regulated BEC.

The original 1200 receivers are the worst, the Pro's are better, The micro is even better and the new DR3 receivers are the best. In each case they added more and more capacitors in the reciever.

We have one and we are all smiles. Very light and easy to use. Runs on 4 cells! Also good ergonomics for large hands. Not an issue for me, but Zken of Tekin is about 6'7" and this is the first radio he has been comfortable with.
