Tomac2,

If the charger is only rated to 18v it will not allow a higher voltage to be plugged in and should alarm

You wont need a higher voltage

Cheers

I find it crazy that people pay $150 for a 450w rc power supply when they could make one for far less.
a good 450w computer power supply runs about $30 to $70 depending on brand and efficiency rating.

A 1000w computer power supply will run $100 plus but that is almost double the wattage. But you still need to look at amps on the 12v rail. I think most are around up to 24amps if i am not mistaken. (I very well could be)

Actually u can get 1000w supply for less. Get a server supply. There r ppl that sell them for RC for $50. they put out 30 to 40 amps r smaller & lighter too.

True, a little harder to get, but they would work. You could get a cheap normal psu as well, but I put the price of a decent brand one. The reason I say a little harder to get is because most computer stores dont sell server stuff and you would have to order online or from someone on a forum.

I bought the power supply because I like the warranty it came with and how it looked. you can build one or buy one for less but like the look of it hence why purchased the one I did. In the end your splitting hairs over like fifty bucks. After spending the money I have in the last few months fifty bucks is a complete joke lmao

I agree,

I have a decent electrical background but have no interest in modifying a computer power supply to save a few bucks

Why dont you blokes who modify them start selling them in a modified state ready to go ?

Cheers

Some people do cruey. I have found a few out there while searching. A 24v setup that handles 1000watts is about 100$ from a few different people I have found. But the maxamps is from a bigger company (which I like) and has some nice fit and finish. I'm content paying a bit of a premium for that. Once I build my power station the nice looking power supply will be a finishing touch that was worth it!!!

To be precise, the Maxamps setup is, 2 12v 575w power supplys connected in parallel (I think its parrallel though to get the voltage bump) to make theres which is a 24v 1150watt 47amp power supply.

EDIT: Crusey, here is another power supply supplier: http://www.feathermerchantrc.com/

Also a user on here going by the name of "pakk" builds and sells powersupplys for a bit cheaper. So there are options for you!!!

I am aware of Feathermerchant but postage to Australia kills them

Wouldnt use anything Maxamps branded if you paid me

12v supplys need to be connected in series to get 24v volts and many dont have the correct safety devices to allow that

Cheers

I got the maxamps supply man and it works flawlessly so I dunno what to tell ya! A bit pricey but it works fine

People hate on them because of there outrageous battery claims and some other drama that I never saw.... Seems its a small group more or less that really hammers them. But warranty from them is fine and they are a phone call away for support which is nice. And again, there power supply is working just fine

What is the main reason for all the maxamps hate? Just some BS they said on a forum I read about?

Hey Guys! Not to jump off topic but I've got a Icharger 208b that is not working well anymore. It's got the Amain sticker on it and because its out of warranty they cannot fix it. Anyways I'm also looking for a new charger and read some good things on here!!!

My power supply is this:

http://www.helifreak.com/blog.php?b=955

Would I be able to run the thunder power TP820CD with my power supply? I need to be able to charge up to 6s and preferably up to max of 15 amps.

Thanks and sorry to jump on here...Frankie, I definitely want to see a pic of your set-up when your done

No reason why not

What are the power supply requirements listed for your TP charger ?

Cheers

This would be the charger:

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ger-w-Balancer

But I'm open to suggestions,I did quickly look at the Revolectrix chargers too. They seem a bit overkill for me. I don't quite understand the technology and just need them to charge fairly quick when needed. Mainly I need the charger to be able to plug into my power supply with the banana plugs. I don't want to have to buy another power supply, unless it is absolutely nessescary.
