yeah, I am hopeful.

ESC wise, I feel a bit dirty when I look at my RX8 I picked up lol but I want to see what the hub bub is about for truggy sized motors, and I also want that push control option I hear about that works well for the tekno SCT410.

Maybe in the next Viper VTX8 edition and say a more torquey motor will address those things.

For now E-Buggy and 1/10 2wd buggy will keep the Vipering it up. I can't imagine 1/10 2wd buggy with its various settings doing that with a laptop.

Bob, great to hear from you. I am back on the east coast.... when we are ready to test our 1/8 stuff hopefully I will see you at a track somewhere in NJ or PA.

I do agree with Bob, the high majority of 1/8 racers I see are generally way over powered. They are spinning their wheels, sliding all over the place and say "my tires are wrong" or "need to change diff oil". All they need to do is slow the motor down. On VTX8 we would lower the punch or even run at 85-90% forward power -- still have enough to compete. With control.

Well sounds like I'm beating a dead horse here....

I was hoping for a Truggy can motor to be developed by Viper, but it seems like you guys have your minds made up.

You could make the same argument for under powered racers, and I remember under powered 1/8th scale. It was the Viper VSE motors. Yes we got the same schpeel on how they went through months of vigorous testing... yadda yadda yadda. Then Viper releases a 2 pole 1/8th scale motor.. Even had a longer can for Truggy. Really bad idea imo. They ran super hot and were underpowered. I think Viper ended up recalling them.

I just don't want to see the same mistake twice with the 1/8th scale motors. The VF8s are good, but they haven't really been out for a long time. If your going to redesign the line, I think all options should be on the table.

What I like about viper is they are not about just raw horsepower they prefer smooth controlled power.

Trains and Lanes, Hobby Hut, Mushroom Bowl and LCRC are the more popular tracks in our area (within 2 hours of Philly). Hit me up when you are heading our way and we'll try to coordinate

Cain- with the push control you will find that it works like the brakes. It all depends on how much power is being delivered to the motor as to how much it will work.

I ran it for a while when I was on mech. brakes in a ve8. I was much more consistent and faster without it to be honest.

For me as push control from people I talk to like it for the tekno sct410, I am going to be selfish and give it a try and see if the benefits they report work as well as they are saying. And if good, would want it on the next Viper VTX8

But to be honest there really isn't a whole lot I would like to see changed on the esc, its a great unit. Some of the things I would like to see are mainly software changes like being able to shutdown the ESC regardless of what it "thinks" it saw for throttle position and ability to run sensorless motors. The ESC is robust enough if it could do sensorless operation I would love to use it with some of the more high power motors like castles 1518 or 1520 lineup. Could be another market area for Viper to expand into where bashers don't need sensored op but waterproof.

And the 6 month warranty is great, I hope they don't cut that.

Carl - yeah, we'll agree - that VSE 2 pole 8th motor wasn't good enough. The guys who tested it (no longer with company) told us how great it was, etc, etc. I think we sold about 200 and called it a day. Took us almost 3 years to do it right. We've learn a lot about how we want to test and develop products over our short life as a company. Its much different now, more sources for data, better understand of what we want to accomplish and how to do it. I am sure every company has one product they wish they could go back and say "maybe not".

Default Viper Vtx10r question

I have a vtx10r with 6.5t 540 motor that i got used in a trade. I soldered it and installed in my Durango Dex410 buggy. It almost needs a push for the motor to start turning. I tried a different sensor wire with no change. Any other thoughts what might cause this? motor also needs a bump even when it's not installed to start turning...all solder joints seem good...do i have a faulty motor or esc? Unfortunately i don't have another motor readily available to test with the esc so any ideas would be great!

Have you tried resetting the EPAs on the transmitter and then recalibrating the ESC? To do this, hold down the power button on the ESC with the Tx turned on and in neutral - the ESC should beep twice and it's distinctly different from the normal turn on beep. Now full throttle on TX (nothing should be moving on the car - if it is then you're not in the calibration mode!) and press the power button on the ESC - 2 beeps again and then to finish full reverse/brake and press the power button again. You should be calibrated!

I have a VF8 with a dead rotor and I can't get one from the Hong Kong distributor. Do you have any left? Would like this motor to not be a paper weight

As far as I can tell it is properly calibrated. It's really acting like the ESC and motor aren't cooperating with each other, like the sensor board in the motor is bad possibly. I am going to try a different motor out of my SCT tonight with it to see if that one behaves.
