haha this is so frustrating, should I call Viper?

Question on this issue Graham is having, without the radio on, should he be able to enter into calibration mode?

If he has to have the radio on, do you have the throttle reversed on the channel you are using Graham?

I'd call them, let there custom support shine :)

I can't say for sure if he should be able to or not without seeing it in my hands. And I one up'd your calling customer support....I offered face to face

I tried to enter calibration last night with the radio off. This is what my esc does with the radio off...... nothing. No calibration, no program mode. My vtx10 ONLY responds to long button holds with the radio on. I though I had used the pg before with the radio off, but I tried last night and it was a no go.

i tried entering calibration with radio off, no luck. if i hold down power button the led just stays red when i let go and does not go into startup and the only way to turn off is unplug battery. it will turn on normally if I just press and let go. I am new to Futaba but if the steering works then I am assuming that recevier and trans are fine. I tried multiple models on radio. and somehow for one split second while i was messing around the motor did turn over. i tried cleaning the button. i tried everything i know of but I am not a viper person yet

Just let Bob take a look at it. If he is localish, then that is the best bet.

Graham,

Please confirm your Throttle direction is "REV" and then see if it sets up.

For Futaba Radios, I can't get ANY speedo to configure if the Throttle direction is normal.

Short of that, sounds like some good helpful options available.

I'm on my 2nd Futaba radio. 3PM-X and and a 4PKRS and I've not had to change the throttle direction on setting up either radio with 2 different VTX10R-BE's.

Cain 12-05-2013 10:06 AM

Maybe its the FHSS tech? The 2PL, 3PL, and 4PL's I own / owned would not calibrate without the throttle reversed on SP gear, Castle Creations gear, and the VTX8 (4PL) I am using now in my EB48 and SCT410. usually when I can't get them to calibrate that is the first thing I look at as its been a common thing.

If I have time today i'll see if I can get the 3PL and 4PL to calibrate in normal position with the VTX8 I plan to use in my daughters vehicle and try it again on my stuff too. Who knows, maybe that is my issue here with why it drifts and others don't.

gotta grab some straws .... lol

Im using a 4pks with r614ff. I tried changing to the C1 for older rxs too.

Go into the radio settings for ch2 and disable the high speed mode. That may not be the root cause here, but if you're new to Futaba, you definitely want to go do that now. Current software doesn't like high speed mode for ch2. Think of the High Speed mode as something you want to use for nitro throttle servo, not electric speed control.

Cain 12-05-2013 10:37 AM

For the Viper guys running the new 1/8 motors, and you can send me this via a pm if you feel more comfortable, but what are you thoughts on the 1900 and 2100 kv motors versus the Tekin equivalent?

FYI I've not had to do that and it hasn't caused issues. I'll have to look into it and see if I can find the setting and see if it makes any change.

It's depends on your radio. I have a 4PL and I have it in high speed mode too. This is because the 4PL is slower than the other radios (even in high speed mode) so it's not effected. From personal experience, I have seen this with:
4PK
M11x
M12
MT4
KO's new radio
The higher end Spektrum (Can't remember the model).

Those radios are all significantly faster than the 4PL when you flip their high speed settings on. This is not a cure all or a fix for anything, and it's nothing official from Viper. This is just what I learned from personal experience and from helping Fred Perkins (he's had pretty much every radio alive LOL) troubleshoot, that always fixed his mysterious issues. Didn't matter which radio. If you're not having issues, don't change anything! :)

Anyway, just thought I would share.

I had to do this on my 4PK-R. Once I did it stopped the issue I was having. I only run electric.
