I would definitely run a fan on the esc. No reason not too.

The Viper VTX8 w/ the Viper 4.5 is sweet. 55 degree day. ESC came off at 72 and the motor at 112. Noe I know I can push it harder. Got 6th among pro4's in 4WD SC in the Amain.

mdmaxx - glad you got it working, yes PC Link works the same way as ProGauge.
blue - re-reading your posts, you mention esc temps were low, but what were motor temps?? Just because the VTX8 is a beast - and awesome (sorry, inserting personal opinion) we are seeing guys getting upset that they having issues running 20-25 minutes at racing speeds -- I don't know if any of the racing systems are designed for that -- 10-12 sure, but there is always limit somewhere -- just saying...... Interesting discussion about comparing sensored to sensorless - on our case VTX8 to Copperhead. Like many pointed out - Copperhead was designed to be a Traxxas replacement economy system -- some racers figured out it worked pretty darn well in racing. Like someone pointed out - hard to beat for the price point. That being said. I drove another companies $300+ system in dual mode (which means sensorless, most of time) - it felt like the Copperhead - when the Start Power is set correctly. Comparing it to a sensored system like the VTX8, yes, its going to be very different - but it was meant to be different -- hence the price point. Both effective, both can fast -- it becomes a personal driver choice. But, please be fair, rate it apples to apples. Not apples to T-Bone Steak. |
What were the esc and motor temp cut offs set at? If you truck shutdown, but you have low temps when measured with a temp gun, then the cut offs in the protection shutdown are too low.
Please remember the cut offs are measured off the circuit board and rotor, so those temps are about 50º-60º higher than what you read with a temp gun on the outside. PM me if you have any other questions. |

Has any had any issues running this combo on their 8 scale E buggy?
|
Thats awesome news with Lee Martin joining Viper, a real ambassador and big talent.
I sure hope that this also means that Viper will have a new importer into Europe. |

We are currently developing a seperate line if 1/8 motors that will be out by the summer. |
I wanted to post the news earlier, but its wasn't released yet...
We are very excited to welcome Lee Martin to the Viper Team. He is jumping straight in and running the esc's this weekend at the Kidderminster round of the National series. Yes, we are actively seeking a strong distribution partner in Europe, hopefully we will have some news in that front shortly. |

You know the "chimes" when you power up the esc? What specifically could cause it not to make those chimes? I see the lights do their thing, but no chimes. And I have nothing at the motor

Why does the first comment of this one say that ^
godofcable - the sounds come via the motor, so there is not connection there. I would check sensor cable first. All solder connections second. Of course check both the esc and the motor sides. |

Are you running the fan or upgraded caps?
I have 2 10r ESCs not getting used, hence why I'm going that route. |
