did you calibrate it yet? also, with sensorless systems, you can switch the motor leads around to swap the motor rotation. Switching any 2 wires should solve the issue.

I believe you need to keep the middle wire in the middle, but you can switch the other 2 to change direction.

any two wires will work

if any one is interested i have a new never used viper vtx8 with pro gauge combo I'm not needing not going to run SC or 1/8 scale here is the link http://www.rctech.net/forum/r-c-item...pro-gauge.html

two questions about my new viper vtx10r esc

1. it has a30 software. is it good to go to a55. will I see any benefits. it has the 2 silver caps on it

2. I am running a 8.5 in a 4wd buggy. what timing should I use to try boosted setup. it is a b44.2 running 21/81 gearing with 20 degrees on can

corn- there isn't one "magic bullet" set up when it comes to boost there are a lot of factors. It takes a little time and a little testing. Here is the best description I have ever found of developing a boosted set up. Yes the ratios are different because of the motor, but the idea is the same.

1- Yes, you're good to go to a55.

2- See nikos2002 explanation (excellent!!)

nikos2002 04-10-2013 06:11 AM

corn - sorry forgot to answer the first part. Yes, a55 is an improvement over a30. We learned more about increasing power delivery and keeping smooth throttle feel.

shagnet - thanks!! but credit goes to Dave Beam, he did a great job explaining the process.

BTW, huge congrats to Paul Sinclair who's XFactory's dominated the Thunder R/C Winter Champs. But I wanted to mention that Paul pointe out that he lowered his gear ratio about 3 teeth, added a small amount of boost and timing - and ultimately went faster, running cooler temps. So when its done right, boost can really help, but you have to take your time, watch your temps and test a little to find what works best for you.

+1 I can boost in 2wd and get more power and cooler temps. I am one to try and keep my temps always below 120. I really dont like going higher in temps.

what temps are you guys seeing with the copperhead in the scte or other heavy SC 4x4s?

Thanks for posting that Nikos! I don't run 10th scale, but if I ever do I have some great notes I can refer to.

I am running between 130 and 145 in a Tekno sct410 with a 15 tooth pinion.

I have a SCTe without any major mods other then the tuning kit. So, still a fat truck. I have a copperhead 4500kv setup. The motor comes off around 140° with the ESC around 110°. The ESC readings are not really accurate because that fan moves so much air, cools really well. I run a 14 tooth pinion right now, think I want to try a 15 as top speed seems slower. I don't remember my ESC setting other then i have it in the race profile, I'll edit my post tonight when I get a chance to check it.

I'm looking to change to a 10r with a 550 motor when I get my SCTe 2.0. That setup felt so smooth compared to the copperhead and had better top end. It made it very easy to judge jump speed and corner speed. The braking was better. Very linear/consistent.

nikos2002 04-10-2013 09:38 AM

kid--- I would look at the VTX8. Yes, it's bigger, but with the 10R your pushing the upper envelope of its margin. It's been great and hold up very well with 2 pole motors. But the 8 will be much better with its capability to also handle 4 pole motors as your racing needs change. In the world of 4wd SC trucks, the little extra weight or possible savings won't make that much of a difference.

You one thing we see is that some people look at 1/8 speed controls as disposable units - use them til they blow and get another. That is not our take. We want racers to have a unit that provides performance and lasts as well.

Been running a 10r with a reedy 550 4.5 in my sc104x4 and I get temps around 140/160 on Esc and motor after 12 mins.

Are you running the fan or upgraded caps?

I have 2 10r ESCs not getting used, hence why I'm going that route.
