yes sir. And dont take offense because I didnt read the instructions either. lol. But your doing it wrong. Follow these steps exactly
1) turn on radio 2) turn on esc 3) wait for it to fully boot up 4) push the button for about 1-2 seconds until the orange lights light up 5) plug in the PG 6) have fun with the viper esc. If you plug it in before you enter the programming mode, you will get the failed to connect every time. |

blue -- if the motor temp was low, you should check the Protection tab on the ProGauge, the motor cut off temp default should be around 220-230. This temperature is measured on the rotor not the can - so it will be higher that what people "think". If you raise it a little and run the car again, of course use your temp gun to be sure.
Blanotn -- Thanks? Did it fly further than other speed controls and motors you have thrown in the past or present? Would certainly be interested in finding out why you thought that PM, would be interested helping you get it set up correctly. Spider -- is you looking at the using the VST maybe 6.5 - you can always reduce Forward Power on the indoor track if its too much inside. |
I have the Viper vx4.39 system and it is wicked fast.

mdmaxx - glad you got it working, yes PC Link works the same way as ProGauge.
blue - re-reading your posts, you mention esc temps were low, but what were motor temps?? Just because the VTX8 is a beast - and awesome (sorry, inserting personal opinion) we are seeing guys getting upset that they having issues running 20-25 minutes at racing speeds -- I don't know if any of the racing systems are designed for that -- 10-12 sure, but there is always limit somewhere -- just saying...... Interesting discussion about comparing sensored to sensorless - on our case VTX8 to Copperhead. Like many pointed out - Copperhead was designed to be a Traxxas replacement economy system -- some racers figured out it worked pretty darn well in racing. Like someone pointed out - hard to beat for the price point. That being said. I drove another companies $300+ system in dual mode (which means sensorless, most of time) - it felt like the Copperhead - when the Start Power is set correctly. Comparing it to a sensored system like the VTX8, yes, its going to be very different - but it was meant to be different -- hence the price point. Both effective, both can fast -- it becomes a personal driver choice. But, please be fair, rate it apples to apples. Not apples to T-Bone Steak. |
20-25 minutes would be insane. I have not been to a track where a 1/8th electric race was over 15 minutes. 15 minutes would be a pushing it to the limit. Most 1/8th electric races are 5 minutes with a 7 minute main at the tracks that I go to.
My VTX8 is sitting on my bench waiting for RC-Monster to finish my chassis. I already downloaded the A61.4 software on my laptop. |

any idea's on why i can't get my brakes to work? I turned up the esc(vtx10r) to 100% for brake and the expo on the radio is 150% and it won't stop at all. Thanks.

The motor temp was 140deg and was checked with two different temp guns. This is happening after around 7mins of run time. |

Well, just ordered a VTX8 for my SCT410....hope I like it! Sure I will though.

Welp, after 4 weeks of trying, a local gave up on the vtx10r/vts4.5 combo for the SCTE. Temps were just too high. The esc was hitting the 220 cutoff and the motor 250ish. This was with a 12 tooth pinion. He never made it past the 4 minute mark before ever heating. He had the punch at 20%, motor timing at 0 deg. he played with the pwm on brake and throttle and no dice. So the esc is going into hos short course an the motor will probably be sold off and trash canned. He think the first time he ran it with the 14 t pinion the motor got too hot and from then on he was chasing a dying motor. And the esc just made too much heat. Oh, well. He is going to try hobbywing esc/motor next time. I think the esc needed a fan and it would be fine. But the motor was never what he wanted. He really wants a little more instant power like a 4 pole. And yes, I told him about the Chopper head originally, but sensorless is out of the question. He does not like them.

My VTX8 was SOLID for me this past weekend at Charge Em Up IV at Flowood Indoor RC in Flowood, MS. Took 2nd in 1/8 Open E Buggy
The braking on this ESC to me, feels light years better than the other ESCs I have used in 1/8 in the past. http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1b2970b1.jpg |
