My worst glitch was from a Savox servo, Tekin RS ESC, and Spektrum RX.

I just got a new Viper VTX10R and 17.5 motor combo.
I installed it in my blitz ese.
Radio Futaba 4pl
Servo Savox 1258 TG
77/28 gearing.
My problem is the ESC constantly resets itself. I have only driven it out in the street but I make a couple turns and i loose power and hear the ESC beeping like it just reset. It goes through the beeping tones and lights like the power was turned just turned on.
I'm not sure whats up all my connections are brand new and it seems fine. Any ideas?
Edit: Could it be LVC? how does the vtx10r behave at LVC? I just threw whatever battery I had which was at storage voltage in it.

Wow, spend a day at a big race in the rain the the forum erupts. Looks like everything about has an answer or a direction to look for an answer. Just wanted to add:
- yes, that servo seems to be known to do that with any type of system. We have even seen a bad servo blow out a prototype esc in the past.
- yes. We do require some form of receipt from an establishment/store that you purchased the product brand new for the warranty. We can't warranty a product bought second hand because neither of us could verify what that first person did to it.
I will throw some notes from the SC Nats up later. 2 podium finishes, 5 guys in the top 10 in the 3 classes we raced. Including running the stock A Main in the rain, before it really came down.

Anyone having a problem with a Savox servo with ANY system, make sure you set the end points on your steering so you don't over travel at all. I've been running Savox servos with Vipers and MMP's for years with no issues.

I had thermaling issues on Sunday, both the ESC and motor were hot after each round but in the final the motor thermal protection cut in.
My set up is Cat Sx3 with 83t spur, VTX10R with 10 degrees of boost timing and thermal protection set at 220 F, and a Vampire 7.5 motor. I started with a 24t pinion (8.93 FDR) then reduced to a 23t (9.32) and finally to a 22t (9.74) in the final when it thermaled two turns from the finish. Gearing down and reducing the boost timing didn't seem to help with the temps as I thought it should of, if anything it made it a little worse. All of the transmission is free with no binding etc.
With the 22t pinion it seemed to rev out too much and was down a bit on top speed, so I think the 23t pinion should be about right. Other racers with Cat's at the club will run down to 5.5 motors with a fare bit of timing, but this is mainly with Speed Passion gear. They have also said that the gearing sounds about right.
I am going to do some work to the body shell and under tray to improve air flow to see if this helps. But does it help if the soldering posts on the esc are pointed into the airflow? I presume you use the solder posts to help remove heat? With my install this would be really difficult and at the moment the solder posts are facing backwards, but still with some airflow over them.
Would updating the esc firmware from A19 to A55 help with the temps?
The brakes also seem to be a bit weak compared to my Orca in my DEX410, I have the brake setting at 100% and at full speed it seems to be a bit soft in slowing down. Is this normal? Will the firmware update also improve this? EPA on the TX is also set at 100%.

Yes, the shut down thing is a known issue with the VTX line in all three versions. It doesn't matter what servo's you use or what car. It does happen more with Savox servo's though. I know that the whole Viper engineering team is working on a fix for this. Extra power caps and receiver packs to power the servo don't help either.

I was running a VTX10R with a Viper 5.5T 550 motor in my SC10 4x4 on the weekend and was having similar issues to what has been described above.
Scottmisfits was there to see it also.
While on track, I would loose all drive but still had steering. A moment later the truck would regain drive and I would continue on. Because this was happening on track, I was not able to hear any beeps, but I am sure what was happening was this same rebooting issue. That would explain the delay in drive returning.
The truck does have a Savox servo in it, and running all Futaba gear but the older 603FF Rx's.
My first fix attempt will be to swap the steering servo to one of my Futabas.
Hopefully this corrects the issue.

Scott, I would really have to say that there isnt as much of an issue with the units as some may think. There are a lot of factor's - servo's, radio's, wiring, gearing, driving and set up that can effect things.
Just spent 3 days racing in 95º heat, high humidity at the SC Nationals, of the 4 team drivers and 5-6 customers using Viper products at the event only speed control related failure was a wire coming off the speed control after an extremely rough crash and tumble (and if it came off it was probably a cold joint to start will - but it was a bad crash). The whole time we watch others have thermal and heat issues. Even had someone come tell me that they bought a Copperhead because the expensive system they had, burnt up.
Are there defective units out there -- sure there are, none are perfect. Would love to say they are, but reality is they aren't. From being around the industry for too many years than I care to admit, our percentage of warranty issues of similar to other companies and better than others.
We stand behind our product. Its one of the best systems available, more and more people are starting to learn about it!!

SC Nats results for Viper team:
2wd Stock
Royce Berrio = 2nd (qualified 3rd), he lead a good part of the main, til a slip
Me - 10th - had to win the B to bump up to the A. I did record the fastest lap in the class in the first round of qualifying
Nick Z. - ran one of my VST motors in the main, but I didn't see where he finished (its was a crazy race!!!)
2wd Mod - based on qualifying results
Paul Sinclair - 3rd (he TQ'd round 2 of qualifying)
Mike Aliberti - 5th
4wd Modified - based on qualifying
Mark Smyka - 5th - Copperhead/R45
Zac - 6th --using Mark's spare R45 motor (sorry didn't get last name)
Joe - 10th using Copperhead system (sorry didn't get last name)
Mike Aliberti - 11th - Copperhead/R51
Royce and I ran the prototype BE 17.5 motors in the main. I did use a standard VST in qualifying. Aliberti and I ran the Black Edition esc's. Paul and Royce ran regular VTX's. In 4wd Mark ran Copperhead/R45, Mike Copperhead/R51
I have some pictures and video to download, and also some set ups to post as well.

outtafocus - typically with that happening one of two things has occured. Either the motor thermalled (via heat - or too low setting on the cut off). or the BEC was tripped by a voltage spike. When that happens the throttle should go to neutral to avoid a runaway. If it were to shut off and turn back on, that is generally a low voltage to the receiver, it may not even turn back on right away. These 550 motors and big C batteries put a lot of stress on the system

Thanks for all the info/help.
I charged a battery up to full and ran it without issues messing around in the back yard. Just for 5 minutes with no body on my truck. Didn't have the resetting issue. ( I am using Gens Ace 5000mah 40c packs )
I'm just going to run it how it is at the track this weekend with the savox and see how it goes. If it starts resetting on me again I think I have a couple HPI RTR servo's I can throw in as tests. Another guy here uses the same servo in a tekin system and has never had an issue. ( Same radio as me too 4pl )
To the guy saying the ESC cant be near anything thats strange.. here is mine, I mounted it the only place I could fit it due to wires.

I can't wait to run it on the track it seems like it had plenty of power and was really smooth in the backyard( mostly dirt ) anyway.
EDIT: Ran it in the backyard again ESC rebooted itself twice in 3 minutes.
Temps 99 esc, 136 motor.
I will try an HPI servo tonight.

I can't remember if you mentioned it or not...what motor temp cut off are you running at? If you were at 136° you can add 50-60° onto that for the internal rotor temp which is what you set the threshold to. I found that out too. Adjusted it to 220° and haven't had an issue with it yet. Your motor temp seems kinda high after 3 minutes too. I was a bit undergeared but I finished my 7 minute main with my B4.1 with an 8.5 T at 113°. Ambient temp here was only about 78° though.
