OK here's the update tried everything you guys recommended. Cleaned all my bearing wheels and tranny, made sure everything spint freely, made sure gear mesh was not to tight, reprogramed car to controller, adjusted timing a lil, and added some punch, but his is still getting higher MPH than me.

Am I missing something.

What is his kv on his motor, his gearing, etc...... have to make sure we are comparing apples to apples

twonb1 04-30-2012 04:34 PM

We are both running same 25/83 on both rustlers. His is a 3500kv and mine is a 3900kv

Your motor makes 10% more RPM, so I am assuming that you might be over-geared to the point where the motor cannot over-come the gearing to get up to speed.

If you have verified that you are getting full throttle, and the mechanical side of the car is good (bearings, call rolls good, transmission rotates freely), I would try going down one tooth, or maybe up one tooth and see what you get for results.

I would verify that the ESC is setup at 10 for forward power, and verify that the Start Power setting is at 5 or higher.

I was hoping that with the extra rpm that I would be able to surpass his car on a even playing field, but it looks like it will turn into who will hit the highest mph with different set ups. I'll report back once I run the cars with different gears

Another ? If we do keep the playing field even and keep changing the gears on each car together should my vx4 eventually be able to run faster

Thanks

I have the copperhead/5150kv on the way along with the programming card. Im gonna be putting in in my lightweight scte and am looking for some gearing recommendations along with esc setting. I am running on a medium large 1/8 covered clay track with medium traction, and am looking for the edge in speed with this combo. Any suggestions are welcomed:)

Sent my VX10 off to Viper today. Been very impressed by their customer support so far. Emails were answered quickly and they immediately let me know the quickest way to get my ESC back.

Cant wait to get it back!

So I shipped my VTX10 ESC to Viper on FRIDAY 4-27 for warranty repair...

On MONDAY 4-30 mid-day I got an e-mail confirming that they received it.

On MONDAY evening 4-30 I got another e-mail that it was being processed.

On TUESDAY MORNING 5-1 I got an e-mail stating that it was completed, shipped and they gave me my tracking number.

Couple that with the ease of the whole warranty process, the level of contact through e-mail they had with me, as a result, here's my opinion of Viper-rc:

I'm 31 years old and that is without question The BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever received from ANY company in my entire life, bar none.

Viper support and customer service A+++++++++++++++++

I would recommend starting at a 13, personally I usually ran a 14 on a medium to large indoor offroad track although if you don't have a large straight a 13 may be just fine for you.

I believe I ran profile 4 in the esc but turned the timing down to 3 or 4, sorry I'd go check but I'm only running 2wd now lol...

Hey guys, I am looking for an idea of where to start on gearing in an SC10 with the VST 17.5 running in blinky.

Thanks!

Here is my Copperhead Setup from the win at the first round of the MN Off-Road Series earlier this year. I would start there. You might be able to go 14T with smooth driving, but I would start at 12T or 13T

My settings and setup:
Losi SCTE
NanoTech 6000mah 65C Batteries
13T Pinion / 40 Spur
Punch 3
Motor Timing 1
Brakes 8
Start power 6
Drag Brake 0
Cut-Off 3.0v / Per Cell

Start with Associated's recommendation for a 17.5 motor, and go up from there. It is VERY hard to offer spot on advice on 17.5 racing given that so many small variables will go into it (jumps, track layout, temps, tires, etc.....)

Best advice is to see what others are running at your local track and start a tooth or two lower and test.
