There sure is mate - I've been using a 'shorty' style antenna for about 2-3 years now and I've very satisfied with its performance. No problems with range or interference or anything for that matter. And it looks so much better than the original antenna that's on the M11x and 4PKS. I bought mine from eBay but I know that Team C also sells the identical shorty antenna. Just don't know from where one can purchase Team C products. Maybe they're available directly from the Team C website? I'll see if I can find my antenna on eBay. In a pinch, most computer wifi router antennae will work just fine as that is where the original M11x one came from. Needs to be a screw-in antenna, of course, just something to be aware of as most newer wifi routers don't use the older style screw-in antennae anymore. Actually, most PC wifi card adapters or even USB wifi adapters still use the screw-in style, so that could also be an option.

Finally, also search for an antenna which fits a 4PKS as they use the same antenna as our M11x does. Happy hunting mate. Hope that helps in some way.

Awesome,I appreciate the different options. That is alot of help, thanks

I use HiTec 7950 and 7954 and they always jitter when car is stationary. It's definitely nothing to worry about. I heard the exact same sounds (same sound as my car makes when stationary) in a vid with Drake showing how to set ride height, so if that's what you're referring to, everything's fine. If something else is going on, such as a visible amount of movement from the servo, that's something different and should be looked at.

Regarding cleaning your TX, I would definitely suggest contacting Airtronics tech support as I've emailed them a number of times and they've always been very helpful and quick to reply to my questions.

Let us know how you go.

Well, it is visible movement from the servo, so it is not the normal digital servo buzzing.

I tried another servo and didn't have the problem, so I think I have isolated the problem to the servo, and not the M11X.

M11x New to me!

Hello all, just picked up an m11x of course used and I'm interested in knowing if there are any specific things that I should get to know right off the bat with this radio. Also I was wondering if there was a way to add drag brake from this transmitter rather than programming it through the servo. I know my radio is old, I was wondering if there was a way to reduce the creaking that I get as I handle the radio. I'm glad to be aboard guys! I finally have a nice radio! I have heard that there was a short 2.4 ghz antenna available at one point. Has anyone found a suitable replacement somewhere like Fry's?:D

Always wondered, just what exactly is the purpose of running some drag brake? I'm guessing it's an electric thing as I've never heard of anyone using drag brake settings with a nitro car? I've never run electric vehicles.

There definitely are shorty style aerials available and they work great and look even better! No idea what you mean by "somewhere like Fry's" but I bought mine from eBay a couple years ago but haven't seen them on there for a while now. Finally found the exact same one as I'm using but packaged by Kawada - can't remember what brand mine is but there are several companies all selling the identical antenna. Here's a pic of it: http://shopping.rcmodel.hk/images/products/ka-b64.jpg
It's only about 4cm long (after the hinge/screw-in attachment bit) and flat shaped, not round as per most every other 2.4GHz antennae and I always leave it lying down, never had any need to unfold it so it's sticking up vertical.

As can be seen in the pic, rcmodel.hk is selling them for US$21.90 but may be available elsewhere from a different brand for a different price??

Finally, one thing you might want and/or need to know is that the TX isn't broken when you try to change certain settings and all that happens is "Display Mode" is shown in the LCD. I bought my M11x new and actually thought it was faulty because of this stupid message, which isn't mentioned ANYWHERE at all in the manual. Had to contact Airtronics support to find out what the hell was going on. It just means that whichever setting you're trying to change that brings up the Display Mode message can only be set when the TX is actually in display mode.

Hope that helps you out a bit and contact Airtronics support about the noises - they've always been extremely helpful and curteous whenever I've asked them anything about the radio. I've contacted them several times and every time they gave me the exact info I needed to solve the problem I was experiencing.

Enjoy your new radio mate!

Take your time when reading the manual. It's hard to understand and not everything is in it. Read it and play with the settings as you read. The display button is right on the front and clearly labeled display. You only need display mode for 2 settings. Changing the model, and changing the fhss generation of receiver.

aaron125 03-29-2014 02:43 PM

Slo is partially right about the need to use display mode. There are at least 2 more things it's needed for, those being changing the servo mode, as in NOR/SHR and also to go set 2 or 4 chanell operation, regardless of the FHSS setting. But again, this isn't mentioned anywhere at all in the manual, that one actually has to use display mode to alter said settings. And he's right about it being hard to understand as they actually give different features identical explanations/definitions!! How dumb can they get? Surely one of the worst written manuals I've come across in RC.

But I sure so love the radio!

mtpocketsracing 03-29-2014 03:06 PM

Asians are just smarter I guess. It skips around. Before it shows you how to use it it starts off with advanced settings then basic functions in the back.
And the menu in the radio is terrible too. Wait till you try to input your name or the model name.
It's the least intuitive thing I've ever tried to use.

They're both in the MOD menu same as the fhss setting. You only have to "turn on" 4 channels when using a fhss2 receiver. With fhss3 all 4 channels are on. My bad... Correct you are - I never actually tried setting FH3 to 2 chanels until few mins ago and sure enough, it can't be done. Still a horrible manual though.:lol:

Thanks!

Drag brake saves the driver the time of having to manually activate the brakes. What happens is the second that the radio hits neutral, the car begins braking rather than coasting until the brakes are applied. Many drivers use it for the 1/10 2wd electric classes. Fry's is a store that carries electronic components here in the states. Thanks for the info it definitely will be of assistance! I cant wait for my shorty antenna!

So I contacted Airtronics in order to figure out what type of cleaner would work well to clean up my M11x. Turns out good old windex is what they recommend. IT works well and my radio looks brand new. Anyone have recommendations for replacing the foam on the wheel? Touring car tires?

mtpocketsracing 04-07-2014 08:15 PM

You could of used anything. Simple green, armor all,a wet rag with dish detergent. I would be hesitant using glass cleaner with ammonia in it however.

Receiver issues - any thoughts?

Hi All,

I've got a 92744 receiver that seems to be giving me issues. It is now a couple years old, but has always been flawless...
It is in a 1/8th Nitro buggy, and is starting to simply stop working for a few seconds, so I have no steering or throttle/brake, then it comes good. I had a chance to play with it for a bit today and I can see the Bind LED turn off when this happens. Does not seem to be related to range, happens close, far away etc.
It only happens when the motor is running.
When it happens the LED on my transponder still blinks, so I'm pretty sure the battery connections are all good. Battery is freshly charged and works fine in the other car.

Thoughts? At this stage my plan is to just throw it away and get a new one, don't want to muck up a race day with failing parts.

Cheers,

Michael

Hate to point out the bleeding obvious but have you thought about a replacement wheel radio foam? I'm not being sarcastic, I bought a spare wheel foam from one of the Hong Kong rc shops when I bought my shorty aerial, so I know they're being sold by after-market companies. Don't think the replacement wheel foam was much more than $8-$10 or so. Still in the pack, so if you haven't bought one yet I can check and let you know the brand and part number if you're interested.

Was just on the Amain site and thought I'd take a quick look for a replacement wheel foam and sure enough, up came the exact part we need, the Airtronics M11x replacement wheel foam and the best bit is that it only costs $7.50(!!). So you can get a genuine wheel foam for less than an after-market part, pretty decent deal. :nod:Only thing is, Amain are currently out of stock. But since it's a genuine Airtronics part, should be able to get it anywhere Airtronics items are sold.

Hope that helps mate.
