+1 to testing the Team Powers V5S. They've clearly been using Surpass as an OEM for a long time, but their motors have behaved differently in the past.

I have brand new sealed ones that I can send you on discount, please DM me if interested. Thanks for your work on this thread!

Had another go with my TP V5S. Had better luck this time, I turned down the timing a bit more (from around 42 to 38) and it ran much much cooler. Gearing up from there seemed to be a bit quicker without generating too much heat. So it seems to not like high timing.

That's pretty low, but other racers have found the same conclusions.

On my desk, I currently have 3 brand new motors to test. I have an R1, Speed Zone, and an ORCA. I was going to get a Team Powers, but the ORCA caught my eye. I got it on sale and it's a really cool looking motor. Anyhow, I have been extremely busy with coaching football and going to weddings, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get them all reviewed and tested by the end of this weekend.

curious on the Speedzone and Orca. I just had a R1 V30 on my bench and I was surprised at the overall can design. I have to say I’m impressed.

I just did a review of the R1 V30 last night. I agree. It is a very clean design inside and out. The windings were very tight and cleanly wrapped.

For my average club racer personal opinion I have liked the Fantom motor as my favorite until the V30 came along. That can is the best to work on PERIOD.

I will say that the best tuned/tweaked 21.5 motor to EVER cross my bench was the latest Team Powers V5. We will see how it runs this weekend at Norcal for the Region12 race. On paper this is the world champion….hahaha.

long overdue but hats off to you for what you do sacrificing your time and wallet getting motors to test and share the info for others. I do the same out of curiosity and to see how everything stacks up against the Motiv motors I run so I can report back to Paul to improve the line. I’m also lucky that most racer’s around the Norcal area buy more than one motor at a time so I get to quickly tinker with their backup motor. There’s only been one Orca in the area and zero Speedzone motors so I haven’t had the pleasure of testing them. Along with the Surpass. You also mentioned previously that possibly some of the Norcal carpet off road racers use the Surpass. I just don’t personally know the ones that have them. Been trying to call Speedzone but no one ever answers the phone there. Reminds me to send an email this morning.

I still have to put all the numbers in the spreadsheet and edit the video for the V30.

Thank you for the compliment. I love doing it, but at the same time, doing the video side really sucks. LOL... I'm starting to get some love from manufacturers, so the money part is starting to ease up. I'm not really making anything off the videos, so any manufacture support is greatly appreciated.

The guys at NorCal will post a few comments on my channel. I don't know their actual names. I am, however, seriously trying to get the time to get out there on a Friday night. I live about 100 miles away and I'm not Billy. Not to mention, the Bay area traffic sucks at all hours.

The Speedzone motor is new to me. I only became interested because I saw their motor on the ROAR Racing website as being certified. I really do want to test the Team Powers motor. I just couldn't pass up the ORCA when I saw it. Have you tested the Surpass V6? If so, how would you say it compared to the TP?

I haven’t tested the Surpass as I haven’t seen anyone running one in onroad. I have my eyes and ears open for your reviews of the Orca and Speedzone motors though. What winds are you testing…..17.5?

Curious to get a read on the latest Team Powers 21.5, it's difficult to get an honest opinion on them, without the post being hijacked by the resident Australian Team Powers promotional pony (Sorry Brian...) My 21.5 motors are 2-3 yrs old, it's time to change them out, but being out of tuning for a while means I am behind the 8 ball. Stock is also a consideration, Team Powers in Australia have had lower stock levels than Xray (and that's pretty bad, and why hardly anyone runs T4/X4 anymore :P)

I did order a Surpass from Ausrab to try, if and when Hanna eventually ships (not even sure he's still in business....)

Case in point re Stock Levels of the Team Powers in Australia

Has been like this the past 7-8 yrs and I think why a lot of people have given up trying to use them, just never available.
