Well, today certainly has been interesting. I got a reply to my email (sent through their website rather than directly to their email) and have been talking to Karl from FlySky today.

Regarding sport mode and exciting news about 8 channel support:
NB4 didn't have do sport mode, because in the development we found that the normal mode of performance the same as the sport mode, so there is no separate do sport mode, subsequent NB4 upgrade multiple channels (8 channels) is plans should sport mode will be added (sport model will added after 8 channel firmware out optimization), one way‘s minimum delay is the same as two way, cycle time delay one-way will be lower.
Regarding sensors:
Thank you for using flysky product,NB4 with FGr4S. Can use sensors over ibus/sbus. Can be matched with the following sensors, you should connected the in port of the sensor to the ibus port of FGr4s, Match the transmitter and receiver ,and then the remote control interface can select sensors which on " Receiver Set/Output mode/sensors ",
I also suggested that support for displaying more than four sensor outputs at once could be added in an update as well as suggesting the ability to bind a button and use it to switch between sensor displays. I got this response:
The current architecture is not convenient for four sensor displays,Using buttons to switch displays is a good suggestion,I'll pass it to the development department. Thanks for your advice.
To summarize, even though the FGr4s (the small RX) does not have a dedicated sensor port it can still support their old IT4/IT6 sensors over ibus/sbus. Also, sport mode was dropped as they found during development that it was unnecessary - latency was already good enough. An excited thing learned is 8 channel support will be coming in a future firmware update!!! Finally, they may add support for viewing data for more than four sensors at a time thanks to my suggestion.

Wow, thats very impressive that the tiny FGr4S can use sensors. So I guess Ill continue to buy those, rather than spend a little extra on the larger FGr4. But then I guess I would need to buy more bus things. Luckily I have a few of them in a box somewhere, never thought I would use them.

The sport mode news is funny, in that, they mention it on their site, yet found in development it wasnt necessary. Maybe should have updated the site lol

Also, I think they should keep the sport mode option. IMO, noticing lag while operating is mostly a placebo.

Cool, cool. To each their own.

Personally, I cant leave things alone. Because of this personality defect, I made a huge blunder a couple days ago. Ill be sharing the details of it here in a day or so, after I figure out where its going. lmao

Its related to the noble, of course.

Ok, so a couple weeks ago or so, I had the brilliant idea that maybe I could make an end plug to attach to the handle, that could charge the internal battery. Did some testing, figured out which of the 4 contact in the slot at hte bottom are + and -, and attached one of my battery chargers to those to see if I could charge it. The charger immediate errored out because the maximum voltage of that battery is lower than the lowest its capable of charging to. No big deal I figured, I would search the vastness of the internet for a more suitable charger. Well, then I realized there was a major problem.

During this test, the charger must have pushed through more juice than some internal components could handle. The radio is on a constant charger loop, the rear LED keeps flashing while its off, as if the external battery is attached, even though it is not. And when the radio is on, it displays the charge icon in the top right (battery with lightening bolt). The radio still functions as it should, but this never ending charge loop kills the battery after about a day.

I contacted flysky, hoping that they might have a fix for me. No idea what that could be, just hoped. They sent me an unreleased firmware, which did nothing (of course, obviously a hardware issue). Was a little excited about that, but there seems to be nothing important in this new update (no sport mode or anything). In the end it was suggested that I contact the seller to get a replacement, which I will not do, because I received a free one already due to shipping issues, and would feel like a real douche asking for a replacement on something I didnt pay for in the first place. This messed up radio, will be my son's radio now (he doesnt use it nearly as much as I do), until a later time when I just buy another one.

But during this whole process, I did open the radio up to see if I could determine any physical signs of problems. So, got a cool pic of internals (which I have not seen anywhere on the webs)

I still have not given up on the cap end charger idea. Just have to figure out a smarter route of developing it. Also, I might devise some kind of battery door for this now messed up radio, so the internal battery can be removed and replaced, without opening it up. Cause (maybe obvious) without the battery, the never ending charging loop stops.

Update:
Holy crap, I didnt think I would find something like this, but this seems so perfect. All it would require is a small hole drilled in the handle.

I'm sorry to hear that you killed yours. I would not try charging that handle 18650 unless directly connected to the positive and negative terminals. There are similar pictures on the FCC report for the NB4 but they are small and not as clear so thanks for sharing!

I hold you can get yours fixed. What firmware version did FlySky send you?

The firmware is 1.0.36, I believe the downloadable beta on the site is 1.0.35, so not a giant leap in versions for sure.

The radio still functions and charges as it should. My current work around plan is to add a switch to the battery wires, so I can cut off the battery when its off. This should stop the continuous charging loop when not in use. I have it apart again on my desk right now to look for a good place for the switch, and took it apart more looking for obvious signs of damage (like burnt looking chips or whatever), the thing is clean, so I have no idea what I fried.

The most interesting thing I have learned from taking it apart, is there are 2 unused buttons at the back end of the radio. One on each side, which is the norm for this ambidextrous layout. Perhaps a yet to be used channel?

But also, I ordered 2 of these. Same size and type and all of the internal battery, with built in charging. Just going to put a small hole in the handle so I can plug a usb cord into it while its in there.

Interesting. You might want to look at these battery options as well. You an find the FCC reports and pictures here. They have already applied for and been approved for a new revision of the hardware.

That's the same firmware mine shipped with. I wonder if we could get a changelog!

Just checked the FlySky FCC page and they have a new approval. We're getting another receiver soon. I looks like it will be a bit larger than the antennaless one and have an antenna. should be called the FGr4P. You can find it here: FGr4P manual.

Here is the FGr4S manual!
