I just received mine yesterday from Hobbyking. Everything as far as setup and binding went great. Friday will be the first time I can use it on the track. Going from the RTR Associated radio to this is like night and day.

Hi guys. How's the FGR4 compared to the FGR4S in terms of range and performance?

you need the FGR4v2, but it is huge, has longer range. racers will be using the FGR4S in "1way"

Haven't noticed any difference.

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading over about the 1 way and 2 way. Please pardon me for asking a noob question. But what is that? I've just gotten back to Rc. Back in the day, there's only 1 way to make things work. The right way. Hahahaha. Thanks again...

Two way means the TX talks to the RX and the RX talks back to give you telemetry such as voltage, signal strength, etc. It adds a very slight delay over one way where the RX doesn't talk back. So with one way you get slightly better response time but no telemetry. I have never felt that two way is slow when I race.

1way disables telemetry etc, (info that the rx would send back to the radio) this is why it supposedly never says it completes binding in this mode but which infact when you pull the plug out it connects normally, in theory this should improve latency.

Has anyone setup the telemetry sensors with the NB4 yet?

I finally received my voltage (FS-CVT01), rpm (FS-CPD01) and temperature (FS-CTM01) sensors and got them installed and displaying on my NB4. After configuring the "distance" for the rpm sensor, i'm getting accurate speed results. I'm wondering if there is a way to record max speed natively on the NB4? Looking down at the display at 80+mph to see how fast I'm going wouldn't be ideal lol.

Additionally, is anyone aware of a GPS sensor that would work with this receiver as I would really prefer that option over the magnetic/optical RPM sensors.

I have used the voltage, heat, rpm and IR sensors previously with the IT4s, and currently only use the heat sensor with the NB4.

I found the speed sensors (the rpm, and the IR) to be a real pain when setting up (never actually got the IR working actually), and I didnt find the voltage sensor that useful. But the heat sensor, I like a lot. I have a couple of cars that like to run hot, so good to keep an eye on them.

I know Im rambling more than helping lol

To my knowledge there is no max speed saved. That would be a nice addition to the system though.

I'm planning to get a radio soon. My options are sanwa mt44 or this nb4. Which do you think performs best and consistency, latency?

Take a look at the Graupner X-8E too, you get tons of high end features for a mid-grade price. Rx's are around $30 and they offer a 2 year warranty!

Mine is 3 years old, I recently bought a used M12S and didn't care for the menu system, Graupner's color touch screen is super easy and quick to program changes to your settings in a fraction of the time.

i must've missed the part where he asked about the Graupner?? I've seen those radios die for no reason, too big and bulky things.

Alot of us in this thread have come from m12s(which is basically a super version of the mt44) and rate the NB-4 better in performance, definitely quality is much better and RX are cheap aswell.
lets not forget the NB-4 is also really cheap and honestly puts other high end radios to shame, could do with a higher res screen but other than that its so good.
order from hobbyking you get 2 x micro rx's.

Ironically, I recently bought a used M12S while I was waiting for a replacement steering drop down to arrive. After 3 years of use, the Graupner started to glitch on the steering because the potentiometer went bad, very common regardless of the brand of radio you buy. For $40 I got a whole new drop down assembly shipped to me making it a super easy repair. In the mean time, I struggled to learn how to use the M12S for a couple weeks, the menu navigation was clunky and way more difficult to use the jog wheel which is a design flaw in itself, they tend to stick and need to be replaced which increases frustration. As far as feel and performance goes, the M12S was every bit as good as my Graupner, only complaint I have is the jog wheel and couldn't wait to go back to my Graupner. I'll keep the M12S as a backup, it is a very nice system, but definitely has its flaws.

So how easy is it to replace the steering potentiometer on the NB4 when that time comes?

Also worth clarifying that the older Graupner X-8N radios had some firmware issues, they have since worked out all the kinks with the latest firmware with the X-8E which offers tons of high end features for a mid grade price point, that's the point I was trying to make when someone was trying to compare Sanwa to FlySky... I feel that Graupner is perfectly matched between those two options when combining features with price :)
