I'm happy to hear you admit it was you. My guess, BAD CLUTCH!

Fuel.

nitrodude 08-20-2013 08:17 PM

Bad fuel, perhaps old fuel. Ive never seen a rod split like that. Did you change the rod after break in? Also, the bearing looks like it was overheated with all the burnt fuel/oil on it. Something else that could be is that you might have a vibration somewhere on the car.

Do you guys know if it is possible that the Virtus could reach 9 min. and 30 sec. with a GT car? We run 45 min. race here and would like to pit only 5 times instead of 6.

Sure, with a 1L tank

No. Keep-On & Virtus get about 7:30 in a GT running hard. Use an off-road engine (BTT or Keep Off) to get run times in the 8-9 minute range. If you are running hard, 9+ minutes will be very hard to achieve. We have not seen anyone running up front at a big race pitting at more than 9 minutes.

Thanks for the reply desoto.

Guys, weird problem I am having with my brand new Virtus 21. Idled 2 tanks on bench, and so far up to my 10th tank on the track, the engine dramatically richens itself. It would run well for about a lap, then it will just completely richen itself for a lap, then it will run well for a lap, then it would richen itself. It will just randonly bog down (too rich) then it goes better. And when I say it richens itself, the car will struggle to get going out of corners etc. leaning the top end obviously fixes the dramatically richness, but then the engine then runs too hot (130 c), it also idles high when I come into the pits, and blows little smoke......I don't want to run it this lean so early in its life, so I then keep richening it back and I'm back to my original problem.

I checked the needle settings, top end is only half a turn in from stock needle setting. Bottom end needle has not even been touched yet. Glow plug is very shinny, internals of engine are all excellent. It feels like it has broken in, can turn over by hand now.

Suggestions thanks?

Check tank seal, exhaust seals, fuel lines, carby (tight) and carby boot for air leaks.

+1 on Blis' advice. I have had those exact same symptoms from a bad seal between the pipe and manifold and a tiny (and I do mean tiny) crack in a tank. The only way I found that crack was I noticed the tiniest of wet spots on the back of the radio tray.

Throw away the stock glow plug, even if it looks good. Put a brand new c8tgh.
It's easy to find glow plugs....more "plug" than "glow" haha :)

Thanks in advance.

Hello , the normal temperatur is 130-140 C for this engine with glow plug 8 Nova . If you drive Under this temp you are on breaking in level .
