Gearing (one of the most important things IMO) seems to be overlooked by a lot of people or is it just not spoken about much in the forums??
I have some thoughts on this issue. Some time ago when there was only the MT12 and early (and crappy) RS12s out I ran an OS TR on a largish track (70 metre straight). I geared up the OS TR to take advantage of its more torque less RPM characteristcs when compared to the MT12s and such. Well the results were never quite the same. Don't really know why, but on a large track it really seems that a naturally higher RPM motor seems to have an advantage, regardless of the gearing. Remember I am talking about big tracks here, 70+ metres. For smaller tracks my theory is totally different.

My suspicions are around the powerband, the lower RPM motors also make their peak HP lower in the band, meaning that you need to shift into 2nd earlier and gear way up. Never got good results.

Default Gearing

there is all about!
we race here in Holland only at big tracks 265 meters and No problems at all but you have to look for the right gearing.
depend also wich car you use!
and fuel is a point too a little more oil is always good.
thats why run the R&B concept fuel straight out of the can No problemo
don't forget we race these little bombs on 1/8 scale tracks so you have too take care on a few things like fuel and gearing, shifting

Default D3 better for larger or smaller tracks

I was wondering is the D3 ment for a larger size track that has about 100-200ft straights or smaller tracks?

thanks Jason

Thunder Racer, yeah ill have to try to get to Mingara one day.. just so far for me

jscamry, Ill be running my Dragon on a 60Mtr (I think it is) straight , Ill gear the 1st gear for some good punch and top gear so it does not rev its head off , maybe a 5 tooth spread or something..

Yeah and althought I don't know what you meant by "dry" but am thinking the same process was probably used to manufacture this new RB crankshaft too

Default MAN!!!!!

That crank looks like it got very hot! What type of fuel do you use, it looks like it has some NASTY buildup on the crank.

yeah I used 160% nitro with parts modded by martians which they left behind at Rockwell

no . . was using 25% tornado. maybe the pix isn't so clear. Bearings were ok, just snapped around the crank.

ok...im new to RS5 STS, black body, puprle heatsink, engine...i got this problem.
recently on a 45 minutes race, my engine stop at around 40mins or less and it won't start anymore...obviously i DNF on that race. I got no problem on a 30 mins or less race...so can anyone diagnose this problem. i know must be some engine tuning problem. thanks. im using 25% O'Donnell with Nova #6tf plug.
