How are their .12 inline pipes? For $35.00 that's hard to pass up.

i have a gpx4 with hyper.12 motor. would the sts.12 d3r, be an improvement on my current engine? in power and how long it will last before rebuild? i tend to run my motors a little on the rich side anyway.
cheers.

Ok, my testing this weekend on a big track went fairly well. I completed all 3 rounds of qualifing with the d12x and only had one dnf. I found that the d12x is very glow plug sensitive with the sts .12 legal pipe. It worked best with a medium plug (os. p7) with temps ranging between 212f to 222f, depending where I had my 2nd speed engaged. I wanted to see what the d3r would do, so the following day, I switched the engines out to run my main with the d3r. Unfortunately due to circumstances, my qualifying landed me in the 1st position of our c-main out of 27 racers. I ran the c-main and won the second bump up position with the d3r. It performed well as long as I kept the idle up on pit stops. Same went for another 20 min main in the b. Again I got second bump position to the last spot of the 40 min a-main. I had pretty good luck so far, but as Onnetz, I also had the glow plug back out causing the engine to perform out of sync, so I pulled into the pits and my pitman did a great job of getting me back out for the rest of the main. I ended up in 7th after not finishing the main due to high temps from switching plugs to a novarossi ultra. Stick with the OS p7 or equivalent on these engines and you will do fine. These engines keep up very well with the rest of the pack out there: Max Power, Nova based engines, Os TZ's, and many others. I finished right in the spot behind all the other sponsered drivers!

I like the sts .12 pipe. That is the reason why I tried one.....great price and it is hard to pass up. I would only like to warn you of one thing....this pipe is about 3.5 mm shorter than the vr12 pipes. I had to make the exhaust hole in the body shorter to exit the nozzle. Good pipe, not one dent from very hard two day racing of 95 minutes of qualifiers and mains, not to mention around 7 tanks of practice in between.

Hey Sook
Sounds like you did well with the D3R, you said it runs best with a OS P7.
What fuel are you using? % Nitro, % Oil ?
I am in the process of breaking in a D12EX, 4 tanks so far

Thanks

Yeah, I used Josh Cyrul's break in process and it really helped. I run the 30% Byron's racing fuel. The engine is unbelievable on both ends of the spectrum. I would never recommend anyone qualifing into the lower mains and running all the way up the pole to the A-main. Just absolutely too long on the drivers stand for one day!

I hate to be the LAME but what is the diffrence between the D3R IFMAR and the EFRA? Do they make one faster than the other?

Hey (AI) I noticed a post you did about fuels that are good for STS engines. the trinity fuel is made by wildcat, so does that mean they are the same quality? My LHS don't have wildcat but they do have Trinity Platnium

In some cases they might change it a little , but my guess is with wildcat its the exact same. The only differences is they use different oil percentages.

Wildcat has

10% pro-race
14% eliminator

HPI has
12% power fuel

Trinity has
16% monster basher
12% for monster horsepower
and platinum is like 7-9%

But the rest, at least im guessing is the exact same. I tried hpi power fuel and read the bottle, it lists the exact same things on the side for performance and additives, ran and smelt the exact same , it was just purple.
