mrgsr

answering your earlier question the 321p tuned is a much nicer engine in my dealings with both. it has better bottom, mid, and top but cost a little bit more. it runs smooth and consistent and have had no trouble with tuning since putting it on my car. i fought my ninja until the rod let go after a gallon and a half.

I had 2 ninja's one w/ 1 gal of 30% odonels and the other w/ 1/4 to 1/2 gal and both of them had piston failure. The piston broke but not the rod...Anyone else experience this?

Piston broke? how many shims you were using? which plug... give more information. Photos of the carnage?

I was using 1 extra shim that came w/ motor (copper) w/ the ninja plug, ninja med header & ninja pipe...The 2nd motor before I started it I opened it to put in the shim and put oil in it & it sat on my work bench for a day. When I picked it up to put it in the car there was a nice little puddle of the after run oil that came out of the front bearing...Never had that happen before... The 1st motor did not do that and it ran perfect until the piston broke...The 2nd was hard to tune actually never got it 100% maybe air leak at that bearing, but still the hottest the motor got was 330 and I was out of fuel...

Sorry, but... with 99.9%, you managed yourself to grenade the engine (not one... two), if you readed this thread you may got some information on this thread, regarding the Ninja, Grinder (Uriah Murnan), I and others told and warned that combustion chamber should be raised a lot (in fact, I run at 25% and needed to put 0.6mm of shims, so going at 30% and depending you were, maybe more height should be needed).

Simply adding the shim that came with the engine, you fell short for about 0.3mm of combustion chamber height. The prove should be on the surface combustion chamber and all the piston (completely pitted and grenaded) and for sure you were blowing constantly plugs (or at least pushing severely the filament into the plug).

I never had a problem w/ blowing glow plugs in fact after they broke the first thing I pulled out was the plug & it looked fine...I guess I should have read the thread alot closer before i ran the new one...Well now I know...I thought that maybe since both motors came from the 1st batches that were sent out that maybe there was a defect...but if it was a shim issue then i will do that one the next one...

Probably ambient temps, rel humidity and barometric pressure were way too different, and of course the fuel used (we need to use 25% max nitro).

Could you please put more data regarding this? Which fuel, which plug and other info of interest.

On the same page you asked it, had two messages of people telling they needed to raise the chamber much than was able to do with the additional shim that came on the box. In doubt, maybe you needed to ask to the place you bought the engine. Specially when you broke the first and go for a second engine.

If the LHS gave you a bad advice or at least suspect of something went wront, probably you could do a quick call to the importer (Mugen Racing and ask about them, for sure they will told you to raise the combustion chamber up to a safe level).

Don't know why, but, everyone who used this engine needed to raise the combustion chamber, maybe on the future, the engines should come correctly shimmed from factory.

Just got this motor today, and I got the Ninja EFRA 2053 pipe but the header didn't come in yet. Anyway, what exhaust system is everyone using with this engine and how are your results?
Thanks,
Adam

The short header is the one we use here usually, maybe if you run in huge tracks, the medium, but up to today, the one I've been seeing paired with the Ninja is the short one.

Raced my ninja motor for the first time this weekend in my mrx4r at the tristate 200 in Cincinnatti. I had no problems hangin with highend novas, and rb this weekend. If only I was as good as my motor was. The motor ran great minimal tuning. Held a great tune all weekend. I was running it rich and still getting great fuel mileage.

I hope one of the .12 engines is going to NitroDyne Systems (http://www.nitrodynesystems.com) before the end of the month, so that we can all salivate over the performance graphs.
