I'm glad you bought that up. that's one of the reason why i bought this question up. I was struggling to keep temps down some weeks ago, and thinking about it, i think it was because of a clogged filter. next race (with clean filter), the car was WAY too fat. that was because i was fattening the carb up when my filter was clogged. Now i need to become more aware of my carb.

I am running the lucky 7 filter. the tracks i run on are typically dusty. The luckly 7 filters has the inner filter and outer filter, both are oiled. Shall i run a think dry filter on top of the two oiled filter?

thx

I personally do run the outer filter dry. It has worked for me for the last few years. Besides it helps when you want to do a quick dust-off on the outside of the filter when you are at the track.

As far as your engine temps make sure that your engine is getting plenty of free stream airflow when the lexan car body is on.

On few cars that I had in the past I found that it helps to cut an air intake opening at the front where the windshield of the car is in order to let some air run through the cooling fins of the engine. Some lexan bodies do not need that as they allow the head of the engine to stick out in the free stream thus providing plenty of cooling.

I hope that makes sense to you

Didn't think about the body allowing air. Good point. I'll make sure. The lucky 7 filters are pre-oiled. Shall I run dry on top of that?

You can if you want.
Look at the amainhobbies.com site and input the stock numbers to get an idea of what I mean: HPI15411, XRA358800, TDR290002 and others similar to that. I typically use any generic dry pre-filter ring over a typical round oiled up foam filter. If works for me.

Ok let’s go back to the Argus A52 talks as that is what this forum is all about. How is your Argus running?

I am hoping to try my Argus engine with the 801 pipe in its first race this coming weekend. I say hope cuz of weather. I have a heat gun to get the motor warm and ready for race day.

Lance recommends the use of the Voodoo or werks plugs with the motor. What other users have tries these 2 plugs and did you notice any performance difference? I expect the outside temps on race day to be around 63F. Any suggestions for prep?

Go to your local target store and pic up some Vet medical wrap. Its like $3 and comes in colors. Wrap 1 layer around your oiled prefilter , then after each heat pull it off and rewrap for the next one. Your prefilter will stay alot cleaner and i doubt you will have a spec on the inner filter after a full day of racing.

Kevin, I run the Werks #6 plugs and they work fine. These engines are a bit cold-blooded, so give it a good pre-warm before starting. A heat gun is ok, but I highly recommend you get yourself a Competition Heat heater...they are the bomb and heat up the head and case very nicely. Well worth the investment, especially when you break in your new engines.

Thanks Geezer. I bought 2 werks hot plugs i guess they are #5. So I think ill keep using the werks plugs over the OS. But this is my first race with this new engine and pipe cant wait to run it.

Does Argus have anything in the pipeline as far as new engines? There was that rumor at one point of maybe a .23...

Funny you asked. Look whats on Neobuggy.net

there are 2 new motors, the A5 (5pt) and B52 (5+2). The B52 looks like a evolution from the A52 with subtle sleeve changes and the new modified crank. We have just finished running in both motors but bad weather has prevented any track testing. We have a big meeting next weekend so hopefully will get to see how good the new mills are

And lucky me gets to run the B52 in my Truggy.
If its better than the A52 it'll be just awesome

I'm sure these new 21's will be awesome and all. But for me the OG A52 is plenty awesome for a 21..(is the B52 really gonna have more power, or just a "smoother power band", better run time, etc..?)

A .23 though.............

Yep Paul you will have the honour of the first person to run the B52 in anger on NZ soil :sneaky::D
