Thanks.. So, stock vs. stock, for somebody who doesn't care about run time.., the Picco/Jammin edges the Argus for pure power?..

Sein 07-30-2011 10:38 AM

Herrsavage, there is only one way to find out...... Strap that engine in and run it!!!:D

Maximo 07-30-2011 10:46 AM

The Argus rips...here is my modified Argus on a 2013.....now we run the 2058......Been testing this engine for the last few months and so far are very happy with them........Here is a video of my first version of the engine, and have since made it even sweeter....

Stock vs stock the Argus makes more HP and TQ then a JPX......however the Argus feels quite a bit smoother...the JPX hits like a hammer off the bottom...the Argus has tons of grunt, but applies it a little more relaxed then the JPX does.....

In mid-strap right now.. :D

Gonna break in in my DM-1..(rainy and horrible here, and the only place to go with electricity - and a roof - tomorrow is an onroad track in a hall...) Got +1 on the CB, an Odonnel 97T, and a JP-4 to get started. Only have a hair drier, so gonna have to go with that for preheating..

Was looking over some old videos of the Nosram.. If you like the music of nitro engines, feast your ears on this..:

Here's mine(same set-up, with 2063 pipe):

Seeing those videos again, I think I have to have one....

+1 The Argus is one of the most powerful engines we have ran. It has huge bottom yet smooth, not like a light switch feeling. Very smooth and linear feel. We have yet to see anything pull our argus anywhere on the track.

The Argus is truly the most under rated engine of all. it is very reliable, gets awesome runtimes and is actually one of the most powerfull mills out there.

Stock they are very fast, and modded they are even faster spooling and pull harder mid to top. I know once more people try them they will see what we have all been talking about is true

stock the DM-1 is geared too tall IMHO....if you want to make the car faster drop gearing instead of adding gear..... In stock gearing I have pushed 70 MPH with a crazy modified 28... it was only spinning about 35 000 RPM doing it..... A stock .21 will never be able to effectively pull that kind of gearing....The gearing load will be so much that engine will not be able to rev out properly.......which in turn will not only hurt speed but also severely limit acceleration.....So if you want the best performance possible with the engines you run then I suggest gearing that car down...... You can use any gear combo as long as the tooth count of the 1st and second gear setup remains the same... Stock gearing is a total tooth count of 64 ..I would bring 1st gear down 1 tooth and bring second down 2 teeth on the pinion

I have been running the Argus all summer long. Have 2 gal on my first one and am not breaking in a back up one and have about .75 gals on it. I have enjoyed the performance vs. value of these engines all summer long. I have ran the 0801 and 2081. Like the 0801 best but the 2081 is good. Really the only thing that you have to get over is the temp they run. I still struggle with the 260-270 range here in the 105 deg summer days in Kansas. But anytime I run it in the 240 range it just does not get it done as well as the higher temps.

As good as this first one is I wonder if Argus has anything else coming out?

I am sold on the Argus line of engines and will run them solely.

Jeff

When running about 300F degree some time was no problem on it sure.Don't afraid of 260-270F range.

I did want to ask about needle settings. Have myself kinda tuned out on my new engine (breaking in a back one to my first one). How many turns out from the bottom is the LSN for most of you guys?

Have read "from flush" on the low speed setting. What part are you calling flush in the LSN area of the carb (has a outside part and the beveled part inside the white tick marks) Just wanting to compare what others are doing.

Herrsavage 07-31-2011 10:21 PM

Well, my break-in didn't go too well.. Only got a half tank through with two heat cycles. Was intending to run the whole tank through, but it didn't work out that way. Had to turn the LSN in at least a whole turn just so the engine would run without the ignitor.. In the end time ran out and I switched the Go back in because I wanted to have some fun and just run the car before the track closed.. Then the dumbaxx DM-1 ate a spur-gear... Must say too, preheating is a lame PIA.. 20-minutes with a hair-dryer sitting on top to get heat into it before every start sucks.. Even having done that I had to pry the flywheel like 3-4 times..

Oh well, at least my SC8 with trusty ole' Mach 427 ran flawlessly..(as usual):

Dunno' why, but those engines are just good to me..

a 20 doller heat gun or even cheaper at a harbor freight or tool supply will get it started easier and faster. If to much still i loosen plug a bit and tighten once started.

abhikommi 08-01-2011 03:32 AM

hi,im done with a gallon of breakin and still the engine wants to run rich and heats upto 210 after the tank.It has very little power.Should i just run it a little more like this or is anything wrong?

jjenkins 08-01-2011 06:19 AM

If you have a gallon on the engine, most of the mechanical pinch should be gone. Lean the engine some. You should be able to get lots of power and run in the 240-260 temp range. 270 temps are not bad. As long as an engine has smoke and doesn't lean bog, then you are fine. NEVER tune an engine for a peticular temp. Tune it where it runs good. You still don't want an engine to hit 300+, but don't stress over and engine that likes to run at 260-270. Those temps are fine.
