Yes I did not make the gallon point just yet myself. But back on page 98 I think. My high was a .40mm. Lsn was 1mm. I did do some leaning out since then so im sure we about the same. I would say. Gonna hit the track this weekend and hopefully we dont get rained out.

You going to the Midwest nitro series race?

I was planning on it but I can not. We only have one car as of now. And will she needs it for work on Saturday. The other one is kinda blown up right.

First Impressions - Argus R8
 

So last weekend I finally got to test out the R8 in my D8T truggy. Unfortunately, we did not race as attendance was sparse, but I did get some good track time. . . for a while. It get EXTREMELY windy, to the point you could not keep the engines up to temp, so I got about 3/4 of a quart through it (not including the 1qt I got in on the break in stand).

My impression is "WHOA!" I was very easy on it the first couple of tanks, and by the 3rd tank, leaned it out a bit. I was running great! At that time, it temped about 275 and I richened it a bit since it still is breaking in. Up until the winds really came, I was running it about 215-220. You could tell it wanted to run hotter, but was still as fast an anyone down the long straight. If it flamed out for some reason (usually while tuning) I would have to keep the heat gun handy because (with the winds) it would cool real fast and you could not get past the metal pinch!

Once the winds really picked up, it cut my day short cause I could not (nor could the other two guys on the track at the time) get temps above 175 due to the severe winds.

Gotta say, so far I LOVE this engine!!! I am doing a full rebuild on the truggy before the huge Sworkz race at Amain's outdoor track the last weekend of May, and cannot wait to see this thing roar with rebuilt diffs (forgot to mention that it was "diffing" out with my other set up for the old engine which did not have this power)! Hopefully, I can get some video of the truck on track to share. THANK YOU Rex, for distributing these great motors!! :smile:

Wow so the wind took you day from you. I had never had that happen yet. These seem to be some great engines. What are you using for video. I got 5 video stuck In my go pro cant figure out how to watch them on the pc or tv.i guess I had the pro tune on.

Yeah, the wind would come up and blow so much dirt you could not see the car on the track. I generally have someone use my phone (S3) or tablet (Tab3). The phone does pretty good video, and is easy to load here. The weekend will also be on liverc.

I might have kept driving if the engine was fully broken in. Just too cold temp (for me) to keep running. Also, I tried to run my buggy, but that much wind, it just was not much fun.

I have ran Argus and Alpha motors the last 3 years. I love the Argus and was excited to see them distro'd in the US again! When I get my new buggy (Im running an old A5 in my current buggy) I plan to get a D52.

So do you feel they tune the same. I think there is some similar in tuning.

They seem very similar. I will know better once the R8 is fully broken in. But in terms of "they run even when really rich" they are the same. I had it in the range of 175 - 275 and it ran with power. Of course ran with more power on that higher end, but I was clearing all jumps throughout that range.

Well, with the Midwest nitro series cancelled, I guess I'll be headed to the Minnesota nitro series race! We will see how the engine runs in,40-50 degree temps lol

So far my setting are leaner than your mitch

hsn is .18 mill out from housing.
lsn is .92 in from housing.
Idle gap is.3.47 out from carb body. That is just a little bigger than the tip of a 1.5 hex tool.
these setting are real close to my alpha all but the lsn
also it looks like the alpha insert fits. Gonna do some more looking at them when I get the time.

Now my question is does anybody have a .23 with the low speed out from the housing yet. It seem im getting really close to a setting. But im still just a little high. I will work on this some more. I have a race on sunday. Ps still waiting for my video to export.

Had a great weekend at the Minnesota nitro series! I finished 5th in the b main. Was fighting some major break issues all saturday and sunday which started me 9th in the b main. Lots of great racers there, 5th was all I could get out if it. The Argus .23 and tb-1 pipe combo ran spectacular both days. Lots of power for the tight track they had layed out, but still competitive on the high end. Easily made 7.5mim on a tank, probably could have made 10 if I was to try. All and all a great weekend for sure!!!

That great to hear. I took a second place with the .23 today in truggy man was she screaming. It dropped it nuts on me doing the a main. Which caused me too pit an extra time. Wow after I returned this bad boy I had it purring like a kitten. I did find out this engine loves a heavier top. You can not go flush with it on the high speed.my low has got to be close out now.i had to turn it like 2hours I think. I also lowered my idle gap.the first place guy took a lap on me but I think I had 2 laps on second place. I will post my setting later. I also had 7 to 8 minutes of run time today I guess hard race condition will take you down. I almost did a back flip today but I chicken out I dont think are jumps are high enough.but I did get major air and had it tilting back before I hit the breaks to level out for the landing. I think with all the fast guy out and making you drive under real race condition and hit full blast down the straight this might be around 8 minutes. This is a money point serious race we had today . In buggy I sucked with a 7th place dont know what I was doing but I am not happy with my results there.any way fine day off racing. Again I will post needles settint tomorrow when I get time. Also I have to find some one who know how to work this video crap cause I got some footage to show.

Ricks hobby farm is my new favorite track by far... I will definitely be back to that track again! My motor was running really rich ( long story but that's what ended up happening) and it still had enough torque to clear every jump there with ease!
