its been awhile since i tested the 2090, but compared to the 801 its more linear on the bottom without giving up anything mid to top. I didnt notice any increase or decrease in run time. Its money in a buggy on looser tracks, or engines with a abundance of bottom end power.

+1 on the 2090 on buggy. Any Argus motor I have ever ran (3 years or so), the 2090 is the pipe of choice. Conversely, the 0801 seems to be fantastic on all motors for Truggy (although I am going to try get the TB1 soon).

I have a drawer full of pipes, but these two seem to work best.

R8 Updates

Been awhile since I have posted results and how the R8 is running.

I ran the "Octoberfest" race at CVR Rc the end of October. Qualified 3rd and finished 2nd in the A for Truggy. As the R8 gets to about the 1 1/2 gal mark, it continues to get stronger. This track is medium sized, and paired with the 0801 pipe, gets great gas mileage (I pit at 8mins, but have gotten 10min). On medium sized tracks, especially, this thing is a beast. Was running back and forth for 1st for the first 8 mins, but a pit issue resulted in a flame out. Still had 2nd place by over a lap.

Ran a club race at SDRC (Amain's track) in Chico, CA. This is a large track, with a long straight (designed by the Dirt's Joey C). The motor always sounds RPM'd down to me on the long front straight, but no one can catch up with this motor. I TQ'd and finished 2nd in the A main. The motor went a bit lean on me in the main, and had a loss of power around the 7min mark. Speed suffered, but still held on to 2nd. Appears to be glow related on the lean issue.

I have ran Werks, Nova, Alpha, and Argus in this truck. The R8 is hands down the best motor I have ran (the Alpha was the .23). My experience is that it is very easy to tune, runs with anything out there, and gets fantastic fuel mileage. I keep wanting to try it in my buggy, but it is SOOOO good in the truck, I just have not pulled the trigger yet.

Ended up getting an Argus A52 .21 the other day (bought one of my old cars back from a friend who had installed this engine) but havent been able to find much information about it.

What pipes work well? I have an 0801 and assume that is ok based on what I've read with other Argus engines.

.5-.7 good for the idle gap?

How long ago was this engine available? I cant seem to find it or parts for it listed anywhere.

Rex with rw-mods.com is the distributor for Argus now. Argus came back to the US through Rex this year (end of 2013?) after being gone since 2012.

The 0801 is a great pipe. If you are running Truggy, I've found it to be the best. It works in buggy, but I have found the 2090 a better pipe for buggy.

I've never measured an idle gap, I am always looked for just a tiny sliver of gap (looks almost closed) to start with, however, I am sure Rex or someone can give you specs.

Rex is a great guy with lots of knowledge (22Racer on RcTech). You can PM him, leave a message for him on this thread, or email him direct (his email in on his website). He has parts, etc. for the Argus line.

Yes .5 to .7mm idle gap is good. The A52 is the only version available in the past and was since updated. The closest Argus right now is the D52, all newer parts still fit the A52. The 0801 is a great pipe, the Argus 2090 would be a bit smoother on the bottom. A Orion/Werks 2058 would also work well.
I have not taken the time to list all the parts on my website but I have most parts and if I don't I will take them off a new engine. I have cranks, p/s/r, rods, clips, pins, head buttons, hsn, lsn and more.

Rex, sent me a couple race engines to try out, being that through the Speed Shop I deal with many types of racers and some of those want different engines and with a lower price point. I asked if he had something I could test out for a bit so that I can talk from experience if I recommend to someone. Got this engine installed last night and tuned in a bit. Going to do some Friday and Sunday. It really sounds promising on the box. Huge thanks to Rex for sending these to test, also guys check out the shop in the offroad nitro section or with the link in my sig. I can handle anything you may need to keep ya going.

+1 That sounds great!! Wonder if it will be a lot like the new Alpha Dragon II? That would be awesome.

R8 Updates

Ran weekend before last (rained out this last weekend) at the 9th annual North vs. South race in Madera, CA. Always a great event! Qualified 2nd overall in turggy, and finished 2nd in the amain (2 laps over 3rd!). A mistimed fuel stop lead to me losing a lap to the leader (we had a pretty good battle for the first 8-10mins), but closed to under a half lap by the end. The R8 is at about 6 quarts and I think has finally "come in" all the way!

Love this motor! Plan to swap it into my buggy just to see what she will do. Unfortunately, with the NorCal weather and holidays, it will most likely be January 2015 before I can get back out on the track!
