Round 2 of the Minnesota Off Road Series was held this weekend, In Truggy, Josh ran his trusty Clocked Bonito. Track was tough to figure out but in the 1st round Josh managed to qualify 2nd, in 2nd round, he was running well when it sounded as it it developed an air leak and it stalled right at the end of the race. Took engine out and was checking it over when I found a crack/split running lengthwise in rod. Luckily a new rod will fix it, it didn't let go taking other things out with it. Put in our other Bonito for 3rd round and he was 3rd qualifier in 3rd round. Ended up starting 4th in main, was up to 3rd with 4 minutes to go when his recover pack flew out, zip ties broke.. Still ended up 7th. We didn't get a chance to get a real good race tune on that engine before the main, so it ran a little rich.
In buggy, using a Clocked Beat4, he was on TQ run in round 1 when his carb slid up and developed air leak, limped it around and was still able to get 7th for the round, got 6th and 7th next 2 rounds as he struggled to find set up and tires for the track.
He was staing 8th in A Main and made some set up changes and I was second guessing him but he went out and worked his way through the field and took the lead with about 5 minutes left and ended up winning by about 8 seconds. :)
His Beat 5 ran beautiful for,the main at about 270 which is normal for Josh's hard driving style.

Thank You Neal for the great engine work ! Up next is the J Concepts 1/8 Spring Nationals this weekend in Omaha Nebraska.

Awesome results guys..sorry I didn't reply earlier....I just read back a few pages and found this !

Got a good hour tuning session in yesterday and took some videos to post. Want to get some opinions on how the engine sounds. I use Tebo's tuning method which has worked best for me. I took 3 videos; body off, body on, and running in the parking lot. Let me know your thoughts, thanks fellas.

Set Up:

OS 2090 Pipe
Buku Clutch/Brass Flywheel; 1 turn, 2 turns, 3 turns

No, it's just a standard speed...

I have a clocked RB Blast V20 and an airtronics MT4 radio with telemetry. I have the temp probe running up from below into the head drill holes about 1cm or so and tie-wrapped in place. Will this give an accurate temp reading?

I'm running it outside the house at the moment on the road and in the grass. It idles well, hesitates on initial throttle a bit (because I'm hoping I still have it rich). Never opening it wide, but giving it some, it sounds good, blows blue (lots) as it accelerates, but the blue fades if I pick it up for say 50meters. The temp reading I'm getting is around 175F. Does this sound reasonable? I'm not trying to tune it to rip, just to run a few tanks through it to finish break-in. Neal did the initial break-in.

Thanks for any replies, Boyd

*edit - the thing I'm worrying most about is that the temp probe is reading low and I'm leaner than I think. The damn thing seems to scream to me, but this is my first nitro engine so maybe it gets even better :)

Temperature probes tend to be inaccurate. 175F is too cold.

Clocked BTT 2058 41001

I ran the clocked BTT today with a 2058 werks pipe and a Nova 41001 header.

It seemed to have more power than with the 9886 41001 setup but it's difficult to say where. They are such different pipes.

The second generation mods Neal did were fantastic. I feel I have the best setup for me going to the nats.

or they take a good while to figure out exactly where they need to be to give an accurate reading.

The last one I attempted to use was inaccurate (low temp) no matter where I mounted it. Tried high and low on the head between the fins. Even tried mounting it on the block. I suppose I could have tried the exhaust manifold, but that seemed kind of silly. I tossed it.

So I was able to watch these videos......

first two tell me nothing as your just idling........ Second video the engines sounds OK... But I do see your very heavily checking the temp gun...I recommend you leave that alone and tune your car by sound and performance...dont even bother checking the temps as that will only cause you issues...... Believe it or not but I don't even use a temp gun to tune and I highly recommend people not to use them....All it does is lead people to tune to temp which usually results in a crappy tune........ So in he end ignore temps and tune the engine to where it performs well......And also ignore what a engine does at idle, it really tells you nothing useful.....What we are woried about is how the engine behaves under load on the ground...

For you guys running the clocked Picco 5tr .21 do you have a certain pipe you like? I run in the northern Indiana area so you guys from this area know what our tracks are like. I have the picco 2099 and 2069 as well as the werks 2013 and 2058. Also wanted to know if it tunes any different then the stock motor. Thanks.

The engine will tune about the same as stock...... it will just be faster and more responsive on your throttle input....It will also have a little more aggressive exhaust note ..... The pipe is something i suggest you test for yourself... II liked the feel of the 2058 and the2069..
