yes they are in essence the same carb , they perform the same , tune the same so far as i have ever tested , there is like a .25mm difference in the underside/exiting bore which is not noticeable in tuneability or performance

I have a 2084 pipe and 41021 manifold. Is this a suitable combo for a Nova Plus 4c?

Tuning query:

I was running in my P5 last night, Byron 20% / 9901 pipe / 6mm Venturi.

Run in/progress so far:
first tank ran up to temp 3 times
3 further tanks - figure of 8's 1/4-1/2 throttle cooling between
3 further tanks - rich, running a circuit with full gas

Q. I've gone through quarter of a gallon, at idle slightly high tickover which slightly drops, after 10 seconds punches of the line clean plenty of smoke, maybe a slight hesitation/bog... Flat out sounds good, reving high slight trail of smoke - all seems good but the engine temps are way down 65c/165f which leads me to believe something's way out with the tuning?

Hey thanks for that - I guess lack of air (restricted) is why I can't get it to run on factory settings as it's way to rich.

Will put the 7.5mm in before next session.

Factory settings are usually far too rich to run properly...

Thanks for the help gents - after using the quart of 20% shall I richer it an hour or two on both needles before running 25%?

madweazl 08-28-2014 06:58 AM

Was the head reshimmed for the 20%?

No, ran straight out of the box on 20% - only got a quarter quater which is gone after the first 7 tanks

madweazl 08-28-2014 07:51 AM

Arent the P5s shimmed for 30% out of the box?

Fook - had a look at it tonight, LSN was <5 turns out and the top was in from flush.. So the old newbie, too lean on top fat on the bottom mistake. The clue came from Cody kings tuning vid where he talks of the revs not laying down.

Hopefully the bottom being so rich compensated for the top and not done too much damage(there was still a trail of smoke on top.

Reset to factory and will take it to the track tomorrow and keep the needle increments steady.

Venturi was 6.5 up'd to 7.

Try watching this.

I have always broke my engines in with the 8mm insert. Then change if you want.

That is the most common tuning mistake and I think it stems from not tuning the HSN first. Thankfully, most nitro engines are amazingly forgiving for short term abuse.
