If anyone is looking for a truggy engine, the new Roma .25 is perfect. Its FAST! Ran mine for the first time yesterday. I ran it a tad bit rich and was still able to pit at 10:30 during the main. I don't think you'll need more power

From the factory the engines come with two .30mm aluminum and one .20mm copper , if yours has different than it is either an old model or has already been messed with

You can leave the shims the same from standard to turbo

If it takes that long for the engine to really be "broken in", does that mean you can't give it any WOT before that?

My P5 didn't drop its ballz until around 1.5 to 2 gallons were through... pretty typical. Well worth the wait though..

I used the heat method and broke it in just like the "break-in" bible says, then been running conservatively on the track in practice. The motor was so tight new it took me 1 hour to get it started. As soon as it would go up in the sleeve it would freeze, used comp heat to heat it up to 220 every time. Finally it turned over and got it started and idled the first tank through...... That is just a little history.

Now the motor has 1.5 gallons on it and is just not running very well at all. You can turn it over by hand, but barely, which I think is the root of my problem. The motor idles for day and everything is good to go. The needles are now set to flush both the HSN and LSN. Nice crisp low idle to it. The thing has no power to it at all!!!!!! It really bogs on the LSN and is really rich! I try to lean it out an hour or 2 and it starts pinging like it is lean!!!! Problem is driving it on the track it has no bottom to it!!!!!!! Does not have a very strong top to it either. Even with these conditions it is temping at 260. If I lean it to race trim on the bottom it will get up close to 300 pretty quick. I have ran, and ran, and ran this motor at its rich settings and 250 and it never really wants to get any better!!!!! I take my 3 other motors, drop them in with same clutch, pipe, tank and lines, and they scream at 220! I can tune anything and am sort of puzzled. I know it is not clutch, tank, fuel lines as they are all new other motors run great!!!!! I have inspected front bearing and see no signs of leakage.

Should I keep running it now they way it is and eventually it will loose more pinch and problem solved?????? I ran it for an hour straight last night and never improved, still really tight!!!! I think I can't get rid of the pinch, I know it is unbelievable but 1.5 gallons and I really cant turn it over by hand??????? This one is going to need a new rod if it ever breaks in.

Any thoughts by the Nova experts???????

Nova C5tgc (for Break-in)
Byron's 30/11%
Nova 9886
Okay, so I decided to take the motor apart and inspect. The motor was absolutely clean as a whistle and looked very good for a motor that was 1.5 gallons in. I went ahead and cleaned everything inside even though it looked new and reassembled. I went to the track and ran the engine, and ran the absolute $#@% out of it for about 3 tanks, all I had time for tonight. I was so close to it being broke in I think becuse it was running better and had a better top to it and first tank was around 255. Said the heck with it and ran it in the ground, and sure enough, it started making more and more power and temps ended up after 3 tanks at 228. So, the motor is finally starting to drop and wear in. Mine is just coming aong a little slower than some! It still is really tight but is starting to run on the track!!!! I feel like all is well!!!!!! If I just would have ran 3 tanks more the other day, i feel like I would not have had to post the first post!!! I was all so close!!!

you can give it till about 2 ltrs or a 1/2 gallon before you put close to a race tune about 90% but keep it on the rich side and yes all my novas are about the 8ltr or 2gal before run in is complete then you can lean it

Yep, I am at 1.75 gallons and it is just starting to get where I will be able to race it and make decent power. So as crazy as it sounds, I would say 1.5 to 2 gallons before it is completely race ready!!!!

I just got the Bonito for Truggy and the BTTA for Buggy. I ran about 3/4 of a gal through both of them before I gave it WOT. After a couple of tanks past 3/4 gal I started giving them hell and they seem to like it. Do you think hell was given prematurely? I have leaned them out a little but temps are 200-225 range, 225 at empty tank after running them hard.

On the Bonito I have a lot of fuel coming out of the front bearing. Is this from being rich during break in? or do I need to replace front bearing?

Whatcha think?

Thats usually a sign of a grossly over rich break in period

It doesnt always go away but sometimes it does , if it doesnt go away after you get the engine leaned out (dont forget you must lean lsn!) Then you should replace bearing

So what type of pipe is the Nova 9901 ss? I have one and can't figure it out. What engine size would this work well on? I mainly run on a large size track with a .28 jammin engine. I have yet to try the nova 9901 on it (been raining here in Boston). Thanks guys.

it is a torque type pipe...somewhat similar in characteristic to a 9853 in many ways..... except smoother with a slightly better overall RPM range......thats how I see it anyways...its very different from a 9886, much closer to a 9853 then it is a 9886

Thanks

What about running the engine hard before 1 gal? Did I screw anything up? It was preheated before every time it was fired up and temps never got over 230 (empty tank) and was checked very often, everything feels good with it and purrs like a kitten. I just got scared when I read where its not broken in until 2 gallons....
