If you wait till there is no metal pinch when the engine is cold you might be running 3 gallons of fuel thru that thing in your street before you get it to the track.

That makes sense. I had a few RB C6's...

One is temps will gradually drop, the more you run the engine, the cooler it wants to run... And the more you run it, the higher the idle becomes unless you lower the idle gap........Judging from your video it is going to take you quite a long time to breakin the engine... Your doing too much sitting and idling and not enough actual running.......

Is this Neal, from RCCNA?? long time right?? LOL

The video is just a clip and really is just a snapshot of me running it, I spent most of the time going over the camcorder with my Son :o. I am running it harder than that really and there is healthy smoke, but I get the feeling what you're saying is "RUN THAT BITCH!"?

Question....I gather you are saying it is healthy for the engine to run it CONTINUOUSLY, considering the conditions are maintained good smoke, good tune, good temps and this will make the engine run optimally in the long run? I don't want to take forever breaking this motor in (I have a BTT mounted up in my RC8.2 waiting for its first taste of Nitro so I have my work cut out for me) and I want it to run like a raped ape, just want to be clear. I have jacked up a few motors in my time. :o

I just picked up a Nova plus 21-4C engine for my truggy. Which pipe and plug would work the best for this application? Running 30% fuel.

I just run them continuous....less strain on the engine IMO....have been doing it this way for a long time too..... IMO the engine has to be run somewhat hard in order for the piston to seat.... taking it too easy just prolongs the breakin and sometimes leads to the piston not seating correctly......Now I am by no means saying t beat on the engine either, but the engine does need to be run and loaded to breakin correctly......

I went with Adam Drakes advice from this video for my truggy. I am running the 9853 pipe and the 41021 header C6TGC plug 7mm venturi on my Bonito. He goes over it in the vid.

Thanks for the vid link. I will watch it in just a minute.

Any opinions on the nova p3xs? Looking for an engine to run this winter indoors. How is the fuel consumption and smoothness of this engine

this engine has the same crank as a P5XLT and the piston/sleeve/rod of an N21. It should run just like an N21, but the crank should wear much less. The rod is still a weak point tho, but if you put an R7 rod in it, you'd have a very long lasting engine. My experiences with an N21 have shown pretty good fuel mileage, about 8.5-9 mins per tank on a medium sized outdoor track, very smooth too. not a really stout motor, but great for low bite or small tracks

I have the 9853 pipe on mine. I have a werks conical header set(3 different lengths) and I'm currently using the medium length with the 9853.

Just started break in on it today:

I'm sure a lot will disagree with my way of break in but it's worked for me for about 10 years. I explain it on the video description.

I just put a Fusion X3 in my buggy. From what I have read it is not a real powerful motor but great for loose or small to medium tracks on a buggy.

I will be running mine next week to get a good idea of what it's capable of.

I have heard "if you ask 100 people how to break in an engine, you will undoubtedly get 100 different answers." Here is what I go by, good smoke, good temp, good tune, good idle, good to go.....do what ya do Bro, nice vid

Matt, don't tell me one of your dreams ISN'T to having and RC track in that huge back yard....:ha:

I already have a rc track in my backyard lol. It's in the very back next to the giant tree.

I have a Nova/Losi R21 3port and it is super smooth and gets 12mins. on a tank! The internals are great it has the R7 conrod and the Team CNC piston and the good front bearing (17011 I think) and I am surprised more people don't run this engine all the people that have let run or run with have nothing but good things to say about R21. I use a RE10 pipe for more power and RE11 for more runtime also cost less than $250! Give it a try you want be dissapointed!

Muggydude 10-22-2011 09:40 AM

Local pro Matt Chambers runs that engine in his buggy- always seems to run fantastic. Very good running engine!

What life span are you guys gettin out of the older plus 4 buggy team ceramic edition mill? As far as gallons and racing hard not running rich... Nor lean...
